Harnessing the Orientation of Columnar Discotic Liquid Crystals for Narrowband Blue Emission with Enhanced Out‐Coupling Efficiency Toward Improvement of SP‐OLEDs Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Solution‐processed OLEDs containing discotic liquid‐crystalline MR‐TADF emitters are reported. Supramolecular self‐assembly induces homeotropic columnar alignment, enforcing preferential horizontal orientation of the emitter transition dipole moment in spin‐coated films, which leads to an enhancement in the device light outcoupling efficiency while ...

Using the Lambert function in an exchange process with a time delay

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, 2012
The current work describes the application of delay differential equations to the physical process of spin exchange, which affects the lineshape in pulsed nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).

Suppression of electron spin decoherence in Rabi oscillations induced by an inhomogeneous microwave field

open access: yes, 2018
The decay of Rabi oscillations provides direct information about coherence of electron spins. When observed in EPR experiments, it is often shortened by spatial inhomogeneity of the microwave field amplitude in a bulk sample.

Nanothermometry in Living Cells: Physical Limits, Conceptual and Material Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Heat and temperature are fundamental to life. When nanothermometers began probing regions as small as a living cell, they triggered controversial claims of large intracellular temperature gradients. We review physical constraints energy‐conservation, entropy production, thermodynamic fluctuations, and molecular dynamics.

From Clinic to Computation: Multiscale Bioengineering Strategies for Durable Biological Aortic Valve Replacements

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioprosthetic aortic valves have revolutionized the treatment of aortic stenosis, but their durability is limited by structural valve deterioration (SVD). This review focuses on the pericardial tissue at the heart of these valves, examining how its mechanical properties and calcification drive fatigue and failure.

Oleosomes in almonds and hazelnuts: structural investigations by NMR

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics
Oleosomes are lipid-containing organelles that store oils and fats in the tissues of seeds such as almonds and hazelnuts. A comprehensive and detailed understanding and measurement of their size and distribution is necessary to capture the physical ...

Toward the measurement of the hyperfine structure of muonic hydrogen in the FAMU experiment. Multi-pass cavity optimization for experiments with pulsed sources

open access: yes, 2017
We consider a simplified model of the optical multi-pass cavity that is being currently developed by the FAMU collaboration for the measurement of the hyperfine splitting in the ground state of muonic hydrogen and of the Zemach radius of the proton.
