When to puncture, when not to puncture: Pancreatic masses

open access: yesEndoscopic Ultrasound, 2014
Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) has evolved to become a crucial tool for the evaluation of pancreatic diseases, among them solid pancreatic lesions. However, its ability to determine whether a lesion is malignant or not is difficult to establish based only in the endosonographic image.

A Molecular Shielding Strategy to Develop Low Protein Binding, Renal Clearable Pan‐Cancer Near‐Infrared Probes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A molecular shielding strategy to convert “protein‐sticky” and “non‐tumor specific” clinical ICG dye, into a “low protein binding” and “tumor‐targeting” dye with prolonged blood circulation and renal clearance is described. These shielded ICGs demonstrate strong tumor accumulation and optimal tissue clearance, resulting in high tumor‐to‐background ...

Efficient Ranking of Rate-Compatible Puncturing Patterns for a Given LDPC Code Matrix [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this paper, we introduce a novel criterion to rank puncturing patterns for rate-compatible LDPC codes. Specifically, based on Gaussian approximation density evolution, a cost function is devised to characterize the degree distribution of the punctured

Structure‐Guided Dynamical Mechanics in Bioinspired Double Twisted Laminated Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores a dynamic mechanistic study of crack propagation and puncture testing via real‐time monitoring of crack initiation, propagation, and termination through nature‐inspired single and double twisted architectures fabricated from cellulose nanocrystals.

When to puncture, when not to puncture: Submucosal tumors

open access: yesEndoscopic Ultrasound, 2014
Subepithelial masses of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract are a frequent source of referral for endosonographic evaluation. Subepithelial tumors most often appear as protuberances in the GI tract with normal overlying mucosa. When there is a need to obtain a sample of the mass for diagnosis, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) - guided fine-needle aspiration ...

High-Efficiency Cellular Reprogramming by Nanoscale Puncturing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) bear great potential for disease modeling, drug discovery, and regenerative medicine; however, the wide adoption of iPSC for clinically relevant applications has been hindered by the extremely low reprogramming ...

Shape Memory Microneedle to Prevent Risks of Reproductive Hormone Therapy by Switching Sustained to Burst Release Under a Single Transdermal Insertion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A shape‐memory microneedle system enables reproductive hormone therapy through a single transdermal insertion. The X‐shaped device sustains follicle‐stimulating hormone release for three days, and mild heating restores the O shape to trigger burst human chorionic gonadotropin release.
