3D‐Printed Serial Snap‐Through Architectures for Programmable Mechanical Response

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A serial snap‐through architecture is realized using compact 3D‐printed von Mises truss units arranged in a staged cascade. Their geometry and boundary conditions program multistage mechanical responses with plateaux and re‐hardening regimes. An inverted‐compliance model predicts these behaviors and enables analytical design of programmable force ...

High‐Concentration Mesogen‐Assisted Exfoliation of Low‐Dimensional Nanomaterials for Achieving Ultralow‐Temperature Actuations of Liquid Crystal Elastomers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Most matter is nominally frozen in the polar regions or space, and liquid crystal materials are no exception. Consequently, soft actuators, including liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs), are inoperative under such extreme cold in response to stimuli, as their motion relies on mechanical deformation.

Unleashing the Power of Machine Learning in Nanomedicine Formulation Development

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A random forest machine learning model is able to make predictions on nanoparticle attributes of different nanomedicines (i.e. lipid nanoparticles, liposomes, or PLGA nanoparticles) based on microfluidic formulation parameters. Machine learning models are based on a database of nanoparticle formulations, and models are able to generate unique solutions

Curved Nanographene–Graphite Hybrid Anodes with Sequential Li+ Insertion for Fast‐Charging and Long‐Life Li‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid anode composed of Cl‐functionalized curved nanographene and graphite enables ultra‐fast charging and long cycle life through an engineered morphology and sequential Li+ insertion. It delivers 100 mAh g−1 at 5 C with 70% capacity retention after 1000 cycles and maintains stable performance over 2000 cycles in pouch cells, providing a practical ...

Punishment resistance for cocaine is associated with inflexible habits in rats

open access: yesAddiction Neuroscience
Addiction is characterized by continued drug use despite negative consequences. In an animal model, a subset of rats continues to self-administer cocaine despite footshock consequences, showing punishment resistance. We sought to test the hypothesis that

Capital and Punishment: Resource Scarcity Increases Endorsement of the Death Penalty [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Faced with punishing severe offenders, why do some prefer imprisonment whereas others impose death? Previous research exploring death penalty attitudes has primarily focused on individual and cultural factors.

Synergistic Fluorine and Cyanide Co‐Modification to Reinforce Photoinduced Excitons Formation and Transfer for Efficient CO2 Photoreduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An advanced F‐doped and ─CN group co‐modified FCCN is developed. Due to the synergistic effects of co‐modification in promoting photogenerated exciton generation, enhancing charge kinetics, expanding active interfacial areas, and optimizing CO2 interfacial reactions, the FCCN photocatalyst demonstrates excellent catalytic performance and high ...

Free-riding on altruistic punishment? An experimental comparison of third-party-punishment in a stand-alone and in an in-group environment. [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper deals with the subject of third-party punishment. The paper compares, by means of an economic experiment, punishment by a third party (Stand-Alone case) with punishment by third parties (In-Group environment). This deliberate introduction of a
