Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

The pupil reaction to light in patients with affective disorders
The purpose of the present study is the evaluation of the changes in the size and movement of the pupil in patients with major depression with melancholic features and in patients with bipolar disorder type I using pupillometry in comparison with normal ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Pupil Disorders, Is Pharmacological Testing Necessary?
Disorders of the iris sphincter that may require pharmacologic testing cholinergic super-sensitivity vs. under-sensitivity: When evaluating an anisocoria that increases in bright light and decreases in dim light, attention usually shifts toward the ...

Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

How to test for a relative afferent pupillary defect (RAPD)
The 'swinging light test' is used to detect a relative afferent pupil defect (RAPD): a means of detecting differences between the two eyes in how they respond to a light shone in one eye at a time.

A study on the relationship between teachers and students with special needs
The impact of the teacher-student relationship on the child’s development proves to be particularly important in the first years of scholarization. Such impact is even higher in students with atypical development.

This thesis advanced understanding of the timing, spatial and adaptation properties of the human pupil light reflex (PLR). It developed new functional measures of the eye's melanopsin cells, which regulate circadian rhythms and pupil size, and are ...
