“Imprisoned within a limited, false set of concepts”: Posthuman Absoluteness and Relativity in Lawrence’s Women in Love

open access: yesÉtudes Lawrenciennes, 2020
Anyone who has seriously engaged with D. H. Lawrence’s Women in Love has probably at some point been frustrated by its many inconsistencies. The characters repeatedly change their minds about and their attitudes towards different questions, while the ...

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Nanoindentation Criteria for Combinatorial Thin Film Libraries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thin‐film material libraries are compositional spreads used for screening composition‐structure‐property relationships. Nanoindentation is often used to characterize mechanical behavior across these systems, however variations in methodology are widespread.

Engineered Mycelial Scaffolds With Tunable Ultraviolet Protection, Wettability, Thermal Stability, and Spatial Mechanics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Fungal mycelia grown into biodegradable scaffolds and infused with titania nanoparticles show enhanced ultraviolet shielding, thermal protection, and surface nonwettability. Properties were tuned by drying methods, revealing structure–function relationships.

Some verbal patterns in the Castle of Perseverance

open access: yesKoers : Bulletin for Christian Scholarship, 1979
The pure fifteenth and sixteenth century ‘morality play’, of which The Castle of Perseverance is an instance, is far from being the dry ethical study this inaccurate term would suggest.

In Situ Constructed Magnetic Core‐Shell Hydrogen‐Bonded Organic Framework‐on‐Metal–Organic Framework Structure: an Efficient Catalyst for Peroxymonosulfate Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, a magnetic core‐shell catalyst (HOF‐on‐Fe3O4/ZIF‐67) is successfully synthesized, consisting of a metal–organic framework (ZIF‐67) with magnetic Fe3O4 as the core and a porous hydrogen‐bonded organic framework (HOF) as the shell. The catalyst efficiently activated peroxymonosulfate, resulting in rapid and effective removal of water ...

Ideal Molecular Sieving with a Dense MOF for Helium Upgrading with Highly Diffusion Selective Mixed Matrix Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The separation of Helium gas from natural gas is challenging but highly important. MIL‐116(Ga), a “non‐porous” metal–organic framework is used as a molecular sieve to separate He from CH4. Druse‐like MIL‐116(Ga) particles are integrated into polysulfone mixed matrix membranes.

A Critique of the Motivations Behind Negative Action Against Asian Americans in U.S. Universities: The Model Victims

open access: yesColumbia Journal of Race and Law, 2015
To deal effectively with negative action against Asian Americans, it is crucial to first understand the motivations behind negative action. This Article posits that these motivations are complex—they are an intricate tapestry of racism and benevolence ...
