Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

On the stability of very massive primordial stars

open access: yes, 2000
The stability of metal-free very massive stars ($Z$ = 0; $M = 120 - 500 \msol$) is analyzed and compared with metal-enriched stars. Such zero-metal stars are unstable to nuclear-powered radial pulsations on the main sequence, but the growth time scale ...

Enhanced CO2 capture performance using deep eutectic solvent-immobilized silica slurry

open access: yesResults in Engineering
Efficient and reversible capture of CO2 remains a critical challenge in advancing carbon capture technologies. In this study, a deep eutectic solvent (DES) comprising 1,5-diazabicyclo[4.3.0]non-5-ene (DBN) and ethylene glycol (EG) in a (1:2) molar ratio ...

Multimodal Mechanical Testing of Additively Manufactured Ti6Al4V Lattice Structures: Compression, Bending, and Fatigue

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this experimental study, the mechanical properties of additively manufactured Ti‐6Al‐4V lattice structures of different geometries are characterized using compression, four point bending and fatigue testing. While TPMS designs show superior fatigue resistance, SplitP and Honeycomb lattice structures combine high stiffness and strength. The resulting

Functionalized recycled polyethylene terephthalate plastic by rare earth oxide for electronic device and housing infrastructure applications

open access: yesScientific Reports
Recycled polyethylene terephthalate (RPET) was doped with Neodymium Oxide (Nd2O3: 0, 1, 2, 4, and 8 wt.%) to investigate its structural, optical, dielectric, and mechanical properties. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed that pure RPET exhibited an
