Marketing Strategy Formulation — Pure versus Mixed Strategies

Journal of the Operational Research Society, 1979
The paper considers Kotler's competitive model and increases the number of possible marketing strategies available by taking into account the combinations of the strategy alternatives. From the larger set of marketing strategies, the optimal strategy or strategies is identified.

Pure Strategy Dominance

Econometrica, 1993
The paper re-investigates the characterization of expected utility maximizing strategies as undominated strategies. The class of games considered is that of finite normal-form games. The traditional result in this field takes the players' von Neumann-Morgenstern utility functions as exogeneously given.

Repeated Goofspiel: A Game of Pure Strategy

IEEE Transactions on Computational Intelligence and AI in Games, 2013
In this paper, we examine a pure strategy game known as Goofspiel and report on the results of round-robin competitions between 14 programs designed to play this game. Goofspiel is a two-person card game that is easy to play. However, playing this game successfully has proven to be a difficult task. There is no known “good” strategy for Goofspiel. This

On the Optimality of Pure Strategies

Management Science, 1960
In Manne [Manne, A. S. 1960. Linear programming and sequential decisions. Management Sci. (April).] has suggested a linear programming formulation for on optimal steady state solution of sequential decision models. In this note we offer a proof which appeals primarily to the properties of linear programs that an optimal solution exists involving only ...

Goofspiel — the game of pure strategy

Journal of Applied Probability, 1971
The game of pure strategy, sometimes called Goofspiel or Gops (see [2] and [3]), is played by two players, using a normal deck of cards, as follows. The 13 clubs are first taken out of the deck and of the remaining 39 cards the 13 hearts are given to Player I, the 13 diamonds to Player II, and the 13 spades are placed face down in the center.

Nash Equilibria in Pure Strategies

Bulletin of Economic Research, 2003
We consider an n‐person non‐zero‐sum non‐cooperative game in normal form, where the strategy sets are some closed intervals of the real line. It is shown that if the pay‐off functions are continuous on the whole space and if for each pay‐off function the smallest local maximum in the strategy variable is a global maximum, then the game possesses a pure
