Surface characterization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The biocompatibility of commercially pure titanium and its alloys is closely related to their surface properties, with both the composition of the protecting oxide film and the surface topography playing an important role.

Novel Tailoring of Ternary ZnS‐MXene‐TiO2 Nanocomposite Heterojunction and Its Tunable Electrochemical Properties With Enhanced Photocatalytic Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
ZnS‐MXene‐TiO2 nanocomposite heterojunction for photocatalytic decomposition of this methylene blue dye (MB) greatly improves light absorption, charge separation, and active site area. Two‐dimensional MXene forms nanocomposites by easily combining them with 0D (quantum dots), 1D (tube and wire), 2D (plane and sheet), and 3D (particle and lamellar ...

Effect of Zirconia-Modified Magnesia Investment on the Casting of Pure Titanium

open access: yesKaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, 2003
Several investigations have examined magnesia-based investments for pure titanium casting. However, the thermal expansion value was insufficient at low casting temperatures and high interfacial reactivity occurred at high casting temperatures.

Population of Nonmetallic Inclusions in Liquid High‐Silicon Electrical Steel in Contact With MgO–C Refractories Based on Recyclates and Environmentally Friendly Binders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The formation of nonmetallic inclusions (NMIs) was investigated in this study, carrying out immersion tests for 30 min at a temperature of 1600°C with liquid high‐silicon electrical steel (Si ≈ 3 mass‐%) and different MgO–C refractories. Conventional MgO–C refractories were considered, as well as MgO–C refractories containing MgO–C recyclate and ...

Surface Modification of Titanium by Hydroxyapatite/CaSiO3/Chitosan Porous Bioceramic Coating

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2020
In this study, hydroxyapatite(HA)-CaSiO3-chitosan(CS) composite bioceramic coating was applied to the surfaces of pure titanium by using the electrophoretic deposition (EPD) method. The mechanism of EPD of HA/CaSiO3/CS composites is discussed.

Assessing Altered Coating Adhesion on Plasma‐Deoxidized Surfaces Under Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the effectiveness of atmospheric pressure plasma pretreatment in modifying silicon and stainless steel surfaces to improve adhesion. Argon‐hydrogen plasma increases surface roughness and improves adhesion strength, whereas pure argon results in smoother surfaces and structural changes.

Stamping formability of pure titanium sheets [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Materials Processing Technology, 2005
Abstract Because of hexagonal close-packed (HCP) crystal structures, commercially pure titanium (CP Ti) shows low ductility at room temperature, and requires thermal activation to increase its ductility and formability. In the present study, the formability of CP Ti sheets at various temperatures was studied by the experimental approach.

Evaluating Energy Absorption Performance of Filled Lattice Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Maximum stress must be considered to robustly evaluate energy absorber designs. This approach was applied to compare all types of absorbers in a single Ashby diagram and determine the utility of filling lattice voids with a second material. High‐performance fillers can improve the performance of lattices that are limited by buckling or catastrophic ...

Optimal sintering procedure to fabrication of functionally graded Hydroxyapatite-Titanium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Functionally graded metal-ceramic composite was fabricated by pressure-less sintering. The pure metallic component (Ti) and the pure ceramic component (HA) were located at the ends of a cylindrical specimen. Titanium and-Hydroxyapatite were utilized as a
