Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1969Abstract Purse seine fishing in a two-species fishery is viewed as a semi-Markov process. Activities of a vessel during a fishing day are assigned to five states: searching, successfully setting on either species, and unsuccessfully setting on either species. Searching for fish schools is assumed to be a Poisson process.

The deck equipment and details of vessel along with the fishing season, fishing grounds and catches are briefly accounted. The design has been compared with Japanese purse-seines operated for the same species of fishes.

Relationship of the Thermocline to Success of Purse Seining for Tuna
Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 1967Abstract Bathythermograph casts made with fishing sets on tuna in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean were examined for a relationship between fishing success and characteristics of the thermocline. Success was highest in thin mixed layers over thermoclines of sharp temperature gradients.
