Purse-seines off Goa

The design, construction and operational details of the purse-seines operated from Goa, for sardines and mackerel are reported briefly. The deck equipment and details of vessel along with the fishing season, fishing grounds and catches are briefly accounted. The design has been compared with Japanese purse-seines operated for the same species of fishes.

Relationship of the Thermocline to Success of Purse Seining for Tuna

Abstract Bathythermograph casts made with fishing sets on tuna in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean were examined for a relationship between fishing success and characteristics of the thermocline. Success was highest in thin mixed layers over thermoclines of sharp temperature gradients.

Scotia-Fundy herring purse seine fishery

Abstract In 1983 the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) implemented a 10-year fleet reduction plan in the Scotia-Fundy (4WX) herring purse seine fishery. The plan constituted an important departure from the traditional philosophy of fishery management in Atlantic Canada by introducing individual and transferable property rights to fish.
