Sectionalized PWM (S-PWM): A new multilevel modulation strategy

2008 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2008
The paper presents a novel multilevel PWM strategy that employs a split section reference waveform with phase-shifted carriers to produce harmonically superior PWM signals. The multilevel PWM switching patterns provide a higher dynamic range than what has been reported in the literature.

FPGA implementation of PWM pattern generators [for PWM invertors]

Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering 2001. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.01TH8555), 2002
Pulse width modulation is used in power converters to modulate a reference signal into gating pulses for IGBT switches. This conversion can be carried out using analog circuits or digital circuits, such as DSPs and microcontrollers. A more efficient and faster solution is the use of field programmable gate arrays (FPGA).

Microcomputer Control of PWM Inverters

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 1982
A method is proposed for implementing on a microcomputer the control of inverters modulated with a digital technique. It consists of storing in the microcomputer memory the switching patterns relative to a limited number of levels of the first harmonics of the inverter output voltage and of computing on line the actual pattern by interpolating the ...

Optimized modulation for PWM rectifiers

2002 IEEE Power Engineering Society Winter Meeting. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.02CH37309), 2003
An optimized set-up for controlling PWM rectifiers is proposed in this paper. In particular, the control part is based on a predictive estimation algorithm which guarantees the imposed value of the DC link output voltage and, at the same time, a unity power factor behavior at the mains.

PWM-CAD1: an interactive and efficient PWM inverter training kit

2000 IEEE Power Engineering Society Winter Meeting. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.00CH37077), 2002
In this paper, the presentation of inverter performance in visual, Matlab with Simulink program and EPROM digital control circuit are used as the computer aided training, simulation and designation which called as PWM-CAD1 kit. The presentation shows the circuit, waveform, mathematics equations of waveform, and inverter performance of switching ...

A PWM fuzzy logic controller

IEEE Micro, 1996
Researchers usually implement fuzzy inference systems in software on digital computers or microprocessors. This approach copes with most problems, however real-time systems often require very short time responses. In this case, a hardware implementation becomes the only solution.

Minimum-loss PWM strategy for 3-phase PWM rectifier

PESC97. Record 28th Annual IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference. Formerly Power Conditioning Specialists Conference 1970-71. Power Processing and Electronic Specialists Conference 1972, 1997
In this paper, the conduction and switching losses of a three-phase PWM rectifier are analyzed for various PWM schemes. On the basis of these results, a novel PWM strategy which minimizes the loss of a voltage-fed three-phase PWM rectifier is developed. This minimization results from the following two factors: (a) low switching frequency ratio; and (b)

On the ZVT-PWM Cuk converter

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 1998
A modified zero voltage transition pulsewidth modulation (ZVT-PWM) Cuk converter is proposed in this letter. Better robustness, smaller minimum duty ratio, and lower turn-on loss are obtained in this converter. No additional component is needed compared with the conventional ZVT-PWM Cuk converter.

PWM fronthauling in reflective PON

2016 European Conference on Networks and Communications (EuCNC), 2016
Pulse width modulation (PWM) has recently been proposed for analog optical fronthauling in centralized radio access networks (CRANs) to avoid the bandwidth expansion of digital fronthauling (e.g., common public radio interface protocol, CPRI). At the transmitter, the radio-signal is mapped onto the duration of an on/off keyed optical signal, while at ...

PWM converters with resistive input

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 1998
An average modeling methodology is proposed for deriving pulsewidth modulation (PWM) programming rules that cause DC-DC converters to look resistive at the input terminals. The method can be useful in the design of active power factor correctors that do not need to sense the input voltage.
