Optimized modulation for PWM rectifiers

2002 IEEE Power Engineering Society Winter Meeting. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.02CH37309), 2003
An optimized set-up for controlling PWM rectifiers is proposed in this paper. In particular, the control part is based on a predictive estimation algorithm which guarantees the imposed value of the DC link output voltage and, at the same time, a unity power factor behavior at the mains.

Sectionalized PWM (S-PWM): A new multilevel modulation strategy

2008 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2008
The paper presents a novel multilevel PWM strategy that employs a split section reference waveform with phase-shifted carriers to produce harmonically superior PWM signals. The multilevel PWM switching patterns provide a higher dynamic range than what has been reported in the literature.

Low losses modulation of PWM-rectifiers

APEC. Seventeenth Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (Cat. No.02CH37335), 2003
An optimized modulation technique which is specific for PWM-rectifiers is proposed in this paper. It is based on the imposition of modulation frequencies different for the three rectifier legs, selected according to the power modules commutation losses.

Improved modulation techniques for PWM-VSI drives

Proceedings of IECON '93 - 19th Annual Conference of IEEE Industrial Electronics, 1997
PWM-VSI based AC motor drives have two main problems. The inverter is nonlinear which causes instability problems in some specific working points of the AC machine and it emits acoustic noise due to the switching frequency. Nonlinearities like dead-time in the inverter, load dependent DC-link voltage ripple and the voltage drop across the switches are ...

Delta-modulated buck-type PWM converter

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1992
A delta-modulated, buck-type, three-phase pulse-width modulation (PWM) rectifier is described. The rectifier is of the current source type and is intended to be used in conjunction with controlled current inverters. An outer proportional feedback loop regulates the unidirectional output current flowing through the DC link.

Indirect modulation for current source PWM converter

2017 IEEE 26th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE), 2017
Compared with carrier based sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM), space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) is widely used because of its higher current (voltage) utilization factor. In current source converter (CSC), SVPWM technique is harder to achieve than voltage source converter (VSC). To make the implementation of CSC SVPWM technique easier,

Isolating the Impact of PWM Modulation on Motor Iron Losses

2008 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2008
This paper presents an investigation into the impact that PWM harmonics have on iron losses in an induction motor. In order to isolate the effect on iron losses, a special test motor is used, with a plastic rotor cage. The special motor is operated at standstill and input power is measured and allocated as stator copper loss or iron loss.

Slope modulation strategy for generated PWM

2008 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics, 2008
A new PWM technique is introduced based on the slope of the signal modulator. The technique was simulated and tested in the laboratory and results show that it generates very high quality voltages with few commutations. It was compared to other recent PWM techniques and achieved higher quality waves and greater fundamental R.M.S.
