Understanding the PWM Nonlinearity: Single-Sided Modulation
IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2012This paper provides a new look at the mechanisms underlying pulse width modulation (PWM). A simple approach to analyze the behavior of a single-sided pulse width modulator is presented. By using elementary methods, the pulse-width-modulated waveform is written as the sum of two sawtooth functions and the original modulating waveform.

Modulating functions for modelling PWM switching converters
IEE Proceedings - Electric Power Applications, 2005The aim of the work is to identify continuous average models of switching converters from input-output data. Among the various identification techniques, modulating functions were chosen due to their capability for revealing converter dynamics, even in the case of fast time constants.

The Delta Modulation Technique in Static PWM Inverters
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1981Pulsewidth modulation (PWM) techniques are employed in voltage-source inverters to produce a variable output voltage containing the least possible harmonic distortion over a wide frequency range. To achieve these objectives, compromises are made in terms of control circuit complexity, smoothness of inverter operation, and overall system reliability ...
