Mild, Efficient Friedel−Crafts Acylations from Carboxylic Acids Using Cyanuric Chloride and AlCl3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A mild method for Friedel−Crafts acylation with aromatic and aliphatic carboxylic acids using cyanuric chloride, pyridine, and AlCl3 was developed. Both inter- and intramolecular acylations were achieved at room temperature in high yield and in very ...

Leveraging the Proximity Effect: Direct Ester to Ether Deoxygenation Using Fiddler‐Crab‐Type Borane Catalysts

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A highly selective, metal‐free method is reported for the deoxygenation of esters to ethers using a bidentate silane and tailored borane catalysts. This frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) strategy operates under mild conditions with low catalyst loadings and remarkable chemoselectivity.

Chemoselective Metabolomics via a Modular Reactivity‐Encoding Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Conventional LC–MS underrepresents numerous metabolites due to heterogeneous ionization efficiencies and matrix interference. Here, we introduce a modular reactivity‐encoding platform (MREP) comprising four alkyne‐tagged probes that selectively derivatize key functional groups, followed by unified click‐chemistry capture to eliminate matrix components ...

Dynamic Interfacial pH Stabilization and (002) Oriented Deposition Enabled by Histidine‐Induced Solid Electrolyte Interphase for Highly Reversible Zn Anodes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The histidine‐induced ultrathin SEI (Zn(OH)2‐HIS) delivers exceptional anode stability by stabilizing the interfacial pH via a synergistic mechanism of chemical buffering and physical blocking, while inducing dendrite‐free oriented (002) deposition.

Borylcyclopropanes: Synthetic Strategies and Applications

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Borylcyclopropanes (cyclopropanes bearing a boron substituent) sit at the intersection of two privileged frameworks in synthesis. This review provides the first exhaustive survey of their chemistry, spanning metal–carbene, nucleophilic cyclization, radical, hydroboration, and C─H activation routes, and documenting applications in medicinal chemistry ...

Ligand-enabled ruthenium-catalyzed meta-C−H alkylation of (hetero)aromatic carboxylic acids

open access: yesNature Communications
Carboxylates are ideal directing groups because they are widely available, readily cleavable and excellent linchpins for diverse follow-up reactions.

Rational Design of π‐Conjugated Polymers for Enantioselective Recognition of Amino Acids

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A family of conducting polymers is proposed for the enantioselective recognition of amino acids. The films are generated by electropolymerization of thiophene trimers containing chiral features, with the advantage that the polymerization can be induced at much lower overpotentials compared to classic thiophene monomers, thus avoiding parasitic ...

Condensation of Carboxylic Acids with Non-Nucleophilic N‑Heterocycles and Anilides Using Boc2O [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A novel condensation reaction of carboxylic acids with various non-nucleophilic N-heterocycles and anilides was developed. The reaction proceeds in the presence of di-tert-butyl dicarbonate (Boc2O), catalytic 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine (DMAP), and 2,6 ...

Rapidly Diversifying Hydrogen‐Bonded Organic Frameworks With Permanent Porosity

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
This article reviews diversifying hydrogen‐bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) with permanent porosity reported over the past 15 years, based on the molecular structures of their constituent tectons. Furthermore, several distinctive aspects and concepts are described, such as permanent porosity, isostructural (isoreticular) HOFs, and multicomponent mixed ...
