Exposure to Gestational Intermittent Hypoxia Does Not Impair the Metabolic Function or Accelerate the Biological Ageing Process of Offspring of Either Sex

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), marked by intermittent hypoxia, is associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes and metabolic associated fatty liver disease. In pregnancy, it remains underdiagnosed despite links to gestational diabetes, hypertension, and foetal growth restriction.

Schizophrenia is a TH2 dominant autoimmune disease possibly against acetylcholine receptors of CNS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Schizophrenia is a very common psychiatric disorder. However, its etiology and pathogenesis is still unknown. Current theory saying that neurotransmitter imbalance such as serotonin or dopamine only provides limited effectiveness in schizophrenia ...

Porphyromonas gingivalis GroEL accelerates abdominal aortic aneurysm formation by matrix metalloproteinase‐2 SUMOylation in vascular smooth muscle cells: A novel finding for the activation of MMP‐2

open access: yesMolecular Oral Microbiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Infection is a known cause of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), and matrix metalloproteases‐2 (MMP‐2) secreted by vascular smooth muscle cells (SMCs) plays a key role in the structural disruption of the middle layer of the arteries during AAA progression.

NLRP3 inflammasome in cardiovascular diseases: an update

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) continues to be the leading cause of mortality worldwide. The nucleotide oligomerization domain-, leucine-rich repeat-, and pyrin domain-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome is involved in numerous types of CVD.

Impact of combined ginsenoside‐MC1 and irisin on mitochondrial apoptosis in diabetic rats with hepatic reperfusion injury: Role of AMPK/JNK signalling

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Hepatic ischaemia–reperfusion (IR) injury is a serious clinical issue, especially in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). As mitochondria play a critical role in the regulation of IR‐induced liver damage, mitochondria‐targeted treatment is of the utmost significance for improving outcomes.

Neuroprotective effects of sinomenine and metformin in diabetic stroke: Role of NLRP3/caspase‐1 and mitophagy

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) significantly increases the risk and severity of cerebral ischaemia–reperfusion (IR) injury, yet effective neuroprotective treatments for diabetic stroke remain limited. This study explored whether a combination of sinomenine and metformin could offer enhanced neuroprotection in diabetic rats subjected to ...

Milk Fat Globule Membrane Supplementation Attenuates Cognitive Impairment in APP/PS1 Mice via Suppressing Neuroinflammation in a Gut Microbiota‐Mediated Serum Resolvin D1/Anandamide Manner

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 2, March 2026.
MFGM modulated gut microbiota accompanied by the increased serum RVD1 and AEA levels, which subsequently regulated the miRNA profile. This modulation alleviated neuroinflammation via suppressing the NLRP3 inflammasome signaling and microglial activation, thereby attenuating AD‐related cognitive impairment both in vivo and in vitro.
