Targeting the NEK7/NLRP3 Inflammasome Axis: Synergistic Protection of Intravitreal MCC950 and Systemic Metformin Against Diabetic Retinopathy in Rats

open access: yesEndocrinology, Diabetes &Metabolism, Volume 9, Issue 1, January 2026.
Graphical Abstract ABSTRACT Objective Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is characterised by chronic neuroinflammation where the NLRP3 inflammasome plays a pivotal role. This study investigated the therapeutic potential and underlying mechanism of combining systemic metformin (MET) with intravitreal MCC950, a specific NLRP3 inhibitor, in a rodent model of DR ...

Serum Uric Acid as a Mediator of Insulin Resistance: Molecular Mechanisms and Metabolic Pathways

open access: yesEndocrinology, Diabetes &Metabolism, Volume 9, Issue 1, January 2026.
Elevated SUA can lead to oxidative stress, endothelial dysfunction, inflammation and impaired function of adipocytes—all of which collectively impede insulin receptor activity and downstream signalling. Key pathways involved include activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome, suppression of AMPK and induction of mitochondrial dysfunction.

Chinese Yam (Dioscorea) Improves Psychiatric Comorbidities of Colitis Mice Through Regulating 5‐HT Metabolism

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 1, January 2026.
CY alleviates colitis and associated neuropsychiatric symptoms by reducing serum LPS, restoring intestinal barrier integrity, and modulating serotonin metabolism. It inhibits neuroinflammation, improves synaptic function, and normalizes HPA axis hyperactivity via downregulation of HTR2C, offering a multi‐targeted strategy for gut–brain axis dysfunction

Post‐Covid Alzheimer and Its Remediation via PROTACs Therapy: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder of aging characterized by memory loss and cognitive decline, associated with amyloid‐β toxicity, tau hyperphosphorylation, and neurofibrillary tangle formation. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) affects the central nervous system
