Multifunctional Role of Mitochondrial Fatty Acid Oxidation in Cancer Immunotherapy and Aging

open access: yesCancer Science, Volume 117, Issue 6, Page 1554-1565, June 2026.
Recent studies have highlighted the complex interplay between tumor immunity, aging, and inflammation. Mitochondrial FAO is a major hub of this physiological interplay. ABSTRACT Recent studies have demonstrated the intricate relationship between tumor immunity, aging, and inflammation.

Energetic stress in combination with impaired fatty acid oxidation induces sequestration of CoA and adaptation of CoA metabolism

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 12, Page 3565-3587, June 2026.
Computational modelling and in vitro liver cell experiments indicate that medium‐chain acyl‐CoA dehydrogenase (MCAD) deficiency causes an accumulation of (especially medium‐chain) acyl‐CoAs at the cost of free CoA (CoASH). A substantial decrease in CoASH impairs flux through many pathways essential for energy homeostasis.

Energy Stress‐Induced Neuroprotection Against Ferroptosis in Dopaminergic Neurons

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 170, Issue 6, June 2026.
Energy stress via glucose deprivation activates AMPK and protects dopaminergic neurons from ferroptosis by limiting lipid peroxidation. In contrast, glucose availability supports ferroptosis through oxidizable lipid pools. ABSTRACT Ferroptosis, an iron‐dependent form of regulated necrosis, is implicated in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD ...

Exposure to Gestational Intermittent Hypoxia Does Not Impair the Metabolic Function or Accelerate the Biological Ageing Process of Offspring of Either Sex

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 35, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), marked by intermittent hypoxia, is associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes and metabolic associated fatty liver disease. In pregnancy, it remains underdiagnosed despite links to gestational diabetes, hypertension, and foetal growth restriction.

A PROMOTER::LUCIFERASE reporter system reveals key elements of the circadian regulation of Crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) in Kalanchoë laxiflora Baker

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 126, Issue 5, June 2026.
Significance Statement Circadian rhythms of firefly luciferase in the Crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) species Kalanchoë laxiflora were driven by both CAM and non‐CAM gene promoters, revealing valuable new insights into both the leaf developmental and circadian clock control associated with CAM. The CAM KlGPT2 promoter drove rhythms in K.
