Lactate oxidation at the mitochondria: a lactate-malate-aspartate shuttle at work

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2014
Lactate, the conjugate base of lactic acid occurring in aqueous biological fluids, has been derided as a dead-end waste product of anaerobic metabolism.

Synthesis, characterization and thermal behaviour on solid pyruvates of light trivalent lanthanides

open access: yesEclética Química, 2018
Solid State Ln-L compounds, where Ln stands for light trivalent lanthanides (La – Gd) and L is pyruvate, have been synthesized. Thermogravimetry and derivative thermo- gravimetry (TG/DTG), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-Ray powder ...

Copper-catalyzed asymmetric methylation of fluoroalkylated pyruvates with dimethylzinc

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2018
The catalytic asymmetric methylation of fluoroalkylated pyruvates is shown with dimethylzinc as a methylating reagent in the presence of a copper catalyst bearing a chiral phosphine ligand. This is the first catalytic asymmetric methylation to synthesize

Synthesis, characterization and thermal behaviour on solid pyruvates of some bivalent metal ions.

open access: yesEclética Química, 2018
Solid state M-L compounds, were M stands for bivalent Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn and L is pyruvate, have been synthesized. Thermogravimetry and derivative thermogravimetry (TG/DTG), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-Ray powder diffractometry ...

ANTICANCER POTENTIAL OF NOVEL PALLADIUM(II) COMPLEXES WITH ACYL PYRUVATES AS LIGANDS: DNA AND BSA INTERACTIONS AND MOLECULAR DOCKING STUDY [PDF]

open access: yesSTED Journal
Bearing in mind that some palladium complexes showed good antitumor potential while exhibiting less kidney toxicity comparing to cisplatin, to discover a new agents for chemotherapy with improved properties two novel palladium(II) complexes [Pd (L)2] (3A

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Effect of dexamethasone on gluconeogenesis, pyruvate kinase, pyruvate carboxylase and pyruvate dehydrogenase flux in isolated hepatocytes [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1993
Treatment of 18 h-starved rats with dexamethasone and subsequent isolation and incubation of the hepatocytes in the presence of the steroid increased gluconeogenic flux with both 1.0 mM pyruvate and 1.0 mM lactate plus 0.2 mM pyruvate as the substrate. The magnitude of stimulation was comparable with both substrates.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
