Infrared laser radiation by a passive Q-switch medium in the Q-switching process
Annual Meeting Optical Society of America, 1986The techniques of Q-switching and mode locking, using saturated-absorption media, are widely utilized in modern laser instruments. Taking account of this fact, we regarded the laser active and passive Q-switch media in a laser system as a combination of two coupled four-level subsystems and analyzed the behavior in terms of rate equations for these ...

Passively Q-switched Tm:YLF laser
Optics Letters, 2012Stable passive Q-switching of a Tm: LiYF4 laser is obtained using polycrystalline Cr2+: ZnS as a saturable absorber. The achieved maximum pulse energy of 0.9 mJ and peak power of 65 kW for a pulse duration of ∼14 ns represent substantial improvement and highest values for a passively Q-switched diode-pumped Tm laser operating at ∼1.9 μm.

Q-switching the Erbium-YAG Laser
Journal of Modern Optics, 1994An erbium-YAG laser has been Q-switched by two methods; a mechanical technique employing a rotating output coupler and electro-optically utilizing a LiNbO3 crystal. The performances of each technique are assessed and compared. Pulse durations of 150 to 850 ns have been produced, with pulse energies of 1 to 16 mJ depending on the technique used.

So far we have investigated SMBS under conditions that exclude the influence of the scattered light on the operation of the exciting-radiation generators. It is of interest also to consider another situation, where there is a strong coupling between the scattering medium and the source of the exciting light (the laser).

The Q-switched Ruby Laser in Glaucoma
Ophthalmology, 1984A pilot study evaluated the safety and effectiveness of a Q-switched ruby laser in the treatment of both pupillary-block (10 eyes) and open-angle glaucoma (4 eyes). All patients had either poor visual acuity or had previously failed with conventional surgery. We created a patent iridotomy in all eyes, with one pulse in eight.

Fifty-nine eyes underwent vitreous surgery (vitreolysis) with the Q-switched Nd: YAG laser. This was used to cut vitreoretinal bands and membranes in 16 eyes and to clear persistent vitreous opacities in 25 eyes. The use of appropriate specialized contact lenses and modification of the standard slit-lamp delivery system were essential for vitreous YAG ...

Q-switching is a method to generate laser pulses with a short pulse duration and high peak power. In this method, the fast, giant pulse is generated by allowing the pumping process to build up a population inversion and gain inside the laser cavity without oscillations, which are larger than the normal values under free-running operation. This is done

A Q switch which shortens the ringing time in pulsed NMR equipment is described. It uses a field-effect transistor as the Q-switching element. A convenient method of generating the control signal is shown. The device performs well and is simple to construct and adjust.

Unpolarized EO Q-switched laser
Applied Optics, 1983A novel laser design is given that uses a special polarizing device to generate unpolarized Q-switched laser energy with a conventional EO Pockels cell. The special polarizing device, which replaces the linear polarizer normally used in conventional Q-switched resonators, allows solid-state lasers to operate efficiently at high repetition rates.
