Distinguishing Different Cancerous Human Cells by Raman Spectroscopy Based on Discriminant Analysis Methods

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2017
An approach to distinguish eight kinds of different human cells by Raman spectroscopy was proposed and demonstrated in this paper. Original spectra of suspension cells in the frequency range of 623~1783 cm−1 were acquired and pre-processed by baseline ...

Detecting single-trial EEG evoked potential using a wavelet domain linear mixed model: application to error potentials classification

open access: yes, 2015
Objective. The main goal of this work is to develop a model for multi-sensor signals such as MEG or EEG signals, that accounts for the inter-trial variability, suitable for corresponding binary classification problems. An important constraint is that the

Stable Isotope Analysis as a Tool to Prevent Illicit Wildlife Trade of Songbirds in Brazil

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
Feather isotopes provide clear differences between wild and captive songbirds in Brazil. Combining multiple isotopes improved classification accuracy and revealed individuals falsely declared as captive‐bred. These results demonstrate the potential of isotope analysis to detect wildlife laundering in the bird trade.

A Quantitative Data-Driven Analysis Framework for Resting-State Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging: A Study of the Impact of Adult Age

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2021
The objective of this study is to introduce a new quantitative data-driven analysis (QDA) framework for the analysis of resting-state fMRI (R-fMRI) and use it to investigate the effect of adult age on resting-state functional connectivity (RFC).

Bistable states of quantum dot array junctions for high-density memory

open access: yes, 2008
We demonstrate that two-dimensional (2D) arrays of coupled quantum dots (QDs) with six-fold degenerate p orbitals can display bistable states, suitable for application in high-density memory device with low power consumption.

Teacher–student relationships in practice: Student perceptions of positive teaching

open access: yesBritish Journal of Educational Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Teacher–student relationships (TSR) significantly shape teaching and learning processes. Current research rarely leverages qualitative analyses of students' perceptions, leaving a critical gap in understanding how positive TSR manifest from students' perspectives.

Using multilabel classification neural network to detect intersectional DIF with small sample sizes

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract This study introduces InterDIFNet, a multilabel classification neural network for detecting intersectional differential item functioning (DIF) in educational and psychological assessments, with a focus on small sample sizes. Unlike traditional marginal DIF methods, which often fail to capture the effects of intersecting identities and require ...
