Pounding Mitigation Design and Real‐Time Hybrid Simulation for a Novel Viscous Damper Applied in Bridges

open access: yesStructural Control and Health Monitoring, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
When the actual displacement of viscous damper exceeds the stroke limit, excessive pounding force may be generated, resulting in damage to the damper. To address this issue, a novel viscous damper with variable stiffness, simple processing, and good economy is proposed.

Stress Evolution Before and After the 2021 Mw 7.3 Maduo Earthquake in Northeastern Tibet and Its Influence on Seismic Hazards

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 9, Issue 6, June 2022., 2022
Abstract The 2021 Mw 7.3 Maduo earthquake ruptured the Kunlun Pass‐Jiangcuo fault (KPJF) in the Bayan Har Block (BHB) in northeastern Tibet. To explore the reasons behind the Maduo earthquake and the seismic hazards that followed this event in the BHB, we simulated the Coulomb stress changes before and after 2021 caused by 27 large historical ...

Three-dimensional coseismic displacements and slip distribution of the 2021 Mw 7.4 maduo earthquake: Synergy of SAR, InSAR and optical images

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
On 21 May 2021, an earthquake of moment magnitude (Mw) 7.4 occurred near Maduo county in Qinghai Province China. This is the first major earthquake that occurred in the interior of the Bayan Har block in the Tibetan Plateau over the past 70 decades ...

Microwave Brightness Temperature (MBT) Background in Bayan Har Block, Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and Its Importance in Searching for Seismic MBT Anomalies

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
The abnormal behaviors of microwave brightness temperature (MBT) before and after some strong inland earthquakes have been studied for more than 15 years, but the normal features of MBT background in the investigated regions still lack essential ...

Research on the extraction of pre-seismic anomalies in borehole strain data of the Maduo earthquake based on the SVMD-Informer model [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences
Earthquake is a major natural disaster triggered by the accumulation and release of crustal stress, and the accurate extraction of pre-seismic anomaly signals is crucial to improve the earthquake prediction capability. In this study, an anomaly detection

Along-dipping variations in fault geometry influencing shallow-slip-deficit during the 2021 MW7.4 Maduo earthquake

open access: yesGeodesy and Geodynamics
The shallow slip deficit (SSD) during strike-slip earthquakes raises a question of how the strain budget is accommodated over multiple cycles. However, the origin of variable SSD observed in different earthquakes is still under debate because each ...

An Improved Pattern Informatics Method for Extracting Ionospheric Disturbances Related to Seismicity Based on CSES Data: A Case Study of the Mw7.3 Maduo Earthquake

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 11, Issue 12, December 2024.
Abstract The exploration of multi‐layer coupling mechanisms between earthquakes and the ionosphere is crucial for utilizing ionospheric precursors in earthquake prediction. A significant research task involves continuously tracking the spatio‐temporal changes in ionospheric parameters, acquiring comprehensive seismic anomaly information, and capturing “
