Study on deformation and structural characteristics of the M w 7.4 earthquake fault zone in Maduo, Qinghai Province by combining optical, InSAR and seismic data

open access: yes, 2023
Abstract By means of D-InSAR and weighted least square method, the coseismic deformation field of the Mw7.4 earthquake in Maduo, Qinghai Province on May 22, 2021 was solved by using Sentinel-1A data of ESA. The horizontal deformation field of earthquake was extracted from Sentinel-2 optical data, and the vorticity field, divergence field, and ...

Fault Orientation Trumps Fault Maturity in Controlling Coseismic Rupture Characteristics of the 2021 Maduo Earthquake

open access: yesAGU Advances, Volume 5, Issue 2, April 2024.
Abstract Fault maturity has been proposed to exert a first order control on earthquake rupture, yet direct observations linking individual rupture to long‐term fault growth are rare. The 2021 Mw 7.4 Maduo earthquake ruptured the east‐growing end of the slow‐moving (∼1 mm/yr) Jiangcuo fault in north Tibet, providing an opportunity to examine the ...

Analysis of seismic damage mechanism of simply supported girder bridges at near‐fault liquefaction sites

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 6, Issue 3, March 2024.
This work uses the Yematan Bridge as an example to explore the seismic damage mechanism of simply supported girder bridges at near‐fault liquefaction site. The near‐fault impulse effect and lack of equivalent limiting measures induced the entire collapsing girders to move consistently and destroyed the high‐damping rubber bearings.

The lost biodiversity and degraded alpine wetlands caused by strong earthquake on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau did not self-restore in the short term

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation
Alpine wetlands play important ecological roles by maintaining biodiversity and enhancing ecosystem reliability, stability, and functionality. However, geological disasters, such as earthquakes, cause biodiversity loss and degradation of the alpine ...

Coseismic Slip and Downdip Afterslip Associated with the 2021 Maduo Earthquake Revealed by Sentinel-1 A/B Data

open access: yesApplied Sciences
On 22 May 2021, an earthquake (98.3° E and 34.59° N) struck Maduo town in Qinghai province, occurring along a relatively obscure secondary fault within the block.
