Genomic Structural Variations Provide Insights Into Litter Size and Teat Number Traits in Hu Sheep

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Here, we conducted whole genome sequencing on 300 Hu sheep with an average depth of 16.51X. Two candidate genes associated with litter size and teat number traits were identified, namely MAST2 and AFDN. ABSTRACT Litter size and the teat number are important economic indicators in sheep production.

Genome-Wide Analysis of Tar Spot Complex Resistance in Maize Using Genotyping-by-Sequencing SNPs and Whole-Genome Prediction

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, 2017
Tar spot complex (TSC) is one of the most destructive foliar diseases of maize ( L.) in tropical and subtropical areas of Central and South America, causing significant grain yield losses when weather conditions are conducive.

Resilience through diversity: The potential of modelling species and variety interactions to enhance resilience of production systems

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Agricultural production systems in the global North combine monocultures of specialised varieties and breeds with external interventions and inputs. Increasing the diversity of varieties, breeds and species may increase the system's resilience to external pressures through beneficial interactions.

Epistatic interaction between two nonstructural loci on chromosomes 7 and 3 influences hepatic lipase activity in BSB mice

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2004
BSB mice exhibit a wide range of obesity despite being produced by a backcross of lean C57BL/6J (B) × lean Mus spretus (SPRET/Pt) F1 animals × B. Previous linkage studies identified a quantitative trait locus (QTL) on mouse chromosome 7 with coincident ...

Speciation with gene flow

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Biodiversity is threatened by human activities, with extinction debt accumulating rapidly. Many of these activities change the connectivity of populations, fragmenting existing population systems or bringing previously isolated populations or species into contact.

Fine mapping and single nucleotide polymorphism effects estimation on pig chromosomes 1, 4, 7, 8, 17 and X

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2013
Fine mapping of quantitative trait loci (QTL) from previous linkage studies was performed on pig chromosomes 1, 4, 7, 8, 17, and X which were known to harbor QTL.

Functional mapping of dynamic traits with robust t-distribution. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Functional mapping has been a powerful tool in mapping quantitative trait loci (QTL) underlying dynamic traits of agricultural or biomedical interest.

A new method to measure EC50 reveals cultivar‐specific fungicide resistance and very high diversity within experimental field populations of Zymoseptoria tritici

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
We isolated Zymoseptoria tritici strains from a diverse wheat field and quantified fungicide resistance using a novel plate assay. We found high diversity in fungicide sensitivity and host–fungicide–pathogen interactions. Abstract BACKGROUND Zymoseptoria tritici causes Septoria tritici blotch (STB), the most damaging wheat disease in Europe. In Europe,
