Impact of Pre‐Oxidation Treatments on a Recycled MgO/Steel‐Composite as Carbon Free Anode in Aluminum‐Electrolysis Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cermets (60 vol.% AISI 316L stainless steel, 40 vol.% recycled MgO), intended for use in aluminum electrolysis, were pre‐oxidized in three furnaces with different heating technologies and subjected to a cryolite corrosion test. The different atmospheres influenced the formation of oxide layers, which in turn affected corrosion resistance and ...

Quantitative anatomy of the fused ossification center of the occipital squama in the human fetus.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
CT-based quantitative analysis of any ossification center in the cranium has not previously been carried out due to the limited availability of human fetal material. Detailed morphometric data on the development of ossification centers in the human fetus

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Robustness of Quadratic Solitons with Periodic Gain

open access: yes, 2000
We address the robustness of quadratic solitons with periodic non-conservative perturbations. We find the evolution equations for guiding-center solitons under conditions for second-harmonic generation in the presence of periodic multi-band loss and gain.

Understanding the Stochastic Nature of Process Parameter Development of Blown Powder Laser Beam Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing of Pure Molybdenum

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

Limit cycles bifurcated from a center in a three dimensional system

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2016
Based on the pseudo-division algorithm, we introduce a method for computing focal values of a class of 3-dimensional autonomous systems. Using the $\epsilon^1$-order focal values computation, we determine the number of limit cycles bifurcating from ...

Total linkage of quaternion algebras and Pfister forms in characteristic two

open access: yes, 2016
We study the subfields of quaternion algebras that are quadratic extensions of their center in characteristic 2. We provide examples of the following: two non-isomorphic quaternion algebras that share all their quadratic subfields, two quaternion ...

Linear to quadratic crossover of Cooper pair dispersion relation

open access: yes, 2000
Cooper pairing is studied in three dimensions to determine its binding energy for all coupling using a general separable interfermion interaction. Also considered are Cooper pairs (CPs) with nonzero center-of-mass momentum (CMM). A coupling-independent {\

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

Center-Guided Dynamic Convolutional Network for Hyperspectral Image Classification

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
In hyperspectral image classification, effectively modeling the relationship between a target pixel and its surrounding context remains challenging. While Transformer-based approaches achieve promising results through self-attention mechanisms, their ...
