Asset Allocation with Aversion to Parameter Uncertainty: A Minimax Regression Approach [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper takes a minimax regression approach to incorporate aversion to parameter uncertainty into the mean-variance model. The uncertainty-averse minimax mean-variance portfolio is obtained by minimizing with respect to the unknown weights the upper ...

Algorithmic Design of Disordered Networks With Arbitrary Coordination: Application to Biophotonics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Predictive Design of Disordered Networks: Disordered network‐like morphologies are abundant in nature, from cytoskeletal networks to bone structures and chalcogenide glasses. These structures are naturally hard to characterize. A new algorithmic tool extends the established Wooten–Weaire–Winer (WWW) algorithm to valencies above 4.

Ultrasmall Platinum Nanoparticles for Radiation‐Enhanced Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes a nanomedicine‐based strategy to enhance X‐ray radiotherapy for cancer treatment. Ultrasmall Pt‐NPs exhibit catalase‐like activity that may contribute to modulation of the tumor microenvironment and amplify interactions between radiation and biological matter, leading to increased DNA damage.

Variance component estimates applying random regression models for test-day milk yield in Caracu heifers (Bos taurus Artiodactyla, Bovidae)

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2008
Random regression models (RRM) were used to estimate covariance functions for 2,155 first-lactation milk yields of native Brazilian Caracu heifers. The models included contemporary group (defined as year-month of test and paddock) fixed effects, and ...

Linear and Quadratic Functionals of RandomHazard rates: an Asymptotic Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes
A popular Bayesian nonparametric approach to survival analysis consists in modeling hazard rates as kernel mixtures driven by a completely random measure.

On unbiased Lehmann-estimators of a variance of an exponential distribution with quadratic loss function

open access: yesTrabajos de Estadistica Y de Investigacion Operativa, 1982
Lehmann in [4] has generalised the notion of the unbiased estimator with respect to the assumed loss function. In [5] Singh considered admissible estimators of function λ-r of unknown parameter λ of gamma distribution with density $$f\left( {x|\lambda , b} \right) = \lambda ^{b -

Observation of Two‐Photon Resonant Raman Scattering via the Biexciton Level in Two‐Dimensional Halide Perovskite (C6H5C2H4NH3)2PbI4

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Efficient two‐photon resonant Raman scattering (TRRS) is observed in the layered perovskite (PEA)2PbI4, with the biexciton level acting as an intermediate state. TRRS undergoes two‐photon frequency shift upon input frequency tuning, persists up to 90 K, and shows clear threshold behavior and polarization selection rules.

Fuzzy neural network with backpropagation for fuzzy quadratic programming problems and portfolio optimization problems

open access: yesNonlinear Engineering
The study aspires to adopt back propagation fuzzy neural networks to solve fuzzy quadratic programming problems. The main motivation behind proposing a back propagation neural network is that it can easily adjust and fine-tune the weights of the network ...

A Non‐Reciprocal Architected Porous Medium

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In several fluid flow, energy‐dumping, and energy‐harvesting applications, a dominant flow direction or dominant resistance direction is desirable. In this study, we propose a simple modular geometry that doubles flow resistance in one direction relative to the opposite direction, while maintaining laminar viscous flow.

Chirality and Organization of Adsorbates Modify Surface Phonon Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Chirality and molecular organization are shown to influence surface phonon dynamics in gold films. Time‐resolved Joule heating measurements reveal that ordered homochiral monolayers increase the Debye temperature and disordered layers reduce it, while ordered racemic controls have no effect.
