pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Comprehensive Evaluation of Texture Quality of ‘Huizao’ (Ziziphus jujuba Mill. Huizao) and Its Response to Climate Factors in Four Main Production Areas of Southern Xinjiang

open access: yesHorticulturae
A superior cultivar of dried jujube in China is ‘Huizao’ (HZ) jujube. Nonetheless, detailed evaluations of the texture quality of HZ fruit have been the subject of few studies.

COMPARING END-USE VALUES FOR NORTH DAKOTA HARD RED SPRING WHEAT VARIETIES

open access: yes
Markets for agricultural products may be inefficient when signals do not adequately reflect product characteristics important to market participants. Although preferences can be explicitly stated through price premiums or characteristic values can be ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Postharvest storage temperature affects the quality and stability of red jujube and winter jujube

open access: yesJournal of Agriculture and Food Research
Red jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill. cv. Hongzao) and winter jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill. cv. Dongzao) are important fruit resources in China. This research systematically assessed the effects of normal- (25 °C) and low-temperature (4 °C) storage on the ...

FIRM-LEVEL HEDONIC ANALYSIS OF U.S. PRODUCED SURIMI: IMPLICATIONS FOR PROCESSORS AND RESOURCE MANAGERS

open access: yes
Firm-level data on U.S. produced surimi, the only seafood product that is graded on the objective measurement of several quality characteristics, are used to estimate the effect of production variables (e.g., hours between harvest and processing) and ...
