In June 2004 the College co-hosted a conference with Regent Medical entitled Balancing Risk and Quality in Surgical Education. The aim was to bring together key opinion leaders from Europe and the rest of the world to address the issues raised for surgical education at a time of rapidly changing medical practice, new structures for medical careers and ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Traditional high-temperature and high-pressure synthesis routes make transition metal nitride (TMN) grains prone to sintering and agglomeration, thus synthesis of architectures with high specific surface area and pore volume is an urgent problem to be ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Quality and Grading Risk [PDF]
Many (perhaps most) sorts of agricultural commodities are not homogeneous, but instead vary according to a set of quality characteristics. Some of these characteristics may be easy to inexpensively measure — many sorts of fresh fruit, for example, are sorted into different sizes by using a sizing belt.

Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

The human gut microbiome across the life course
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Quality Risk Management of Compliant Excipients
Raw material compliance and GMP do not eliminate variability. Quality by Design should minimize the risk that raw material variability will adversely affect the finished product Critical Quality Attributes.
