Application of the Quanta image sensor concept to linear polarization imaging—a theoretical study

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2016
Research efforts in linear polarization imaging have largely targeted the development of novel polarizing filters with improved performance and the monolithic integration of image sensors and polarization filter arrays. However, as pixel sizes in CMOS image sensors continue to decrease, the same limitations that have an impact on color and monochrome ...

Image Processing for Quanta Image Sensors

2019
Since the birth of charge coupled devices (CCD) and the complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) active pixel sensors, pixel pitch of digital image sensors has been continuously shrinking to meet the resolution and size requirements of the cameras.

Noise characterization of megapixel quanta image sensor for scientific applications

Quantum Sensing and Nano Electronics and Photonics XVII, 2020
The quanta image sensor (QIS) is a novel CMOS-based image sensor capable of photon counting without the necessity of avalanche gain. The QIS reported in this work is implemented in a state-of-the-art backside-illuminated (BSI) CMOS image sensor commercial stacking (3D) process.

Object Tracking and Reconstruction with a Quanta Image Sensor [PDF]

open access: possible, 2017
Quanta Image Sensor devices offer single-photon sensitivity, coupled with high frame rates (>100kfps), making them ideal for the tracking of high-speed objects in low light conditions. However, motion artefacts emerge as bit-planes are aggregated in time to increase bit depth (and image detail). This work explores a scheme for object tracking, based

Single-Electron Quantization of Dark Current in Quanta Image Sensors

Physical Review Letters
We present a first experimental study of dark current in a quanta image sensor (QIS) based on complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology. With the extremely low noise levels of this sensor it is possible to observe spatial and temporal dark current quantization.
