Health care utilization patterns of patients enrolled in an interdisciplinary program for back pain

open access: yesNorth American Spine Society Journal
Background: Chronic low back pain is a costly condition and the leading cause of disability worldwide. A recent call to action identified the overuse of low-value health care as ineffective and potentially harmful in the context of back pain ...

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Model-free measurement of case influence in structural equation modeling

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology
In the field of structural equation modeling (SEM), all commonly used case influence measures are model-based measures whose performance are affected by target-model-misspecification-error.

Quantitative evaluation of enforcement strategies

open access: yes, 2013
In Security, monitors and enforcement mechanisms run in parallel with programs to check, and modify their run-time behaviour, respectively, in order to guarantee the satisfaction of a security policy. For the same policy, several enforcement strategies are possible. We provide a framework for quantitative monitoring and enforcement.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Responsive early childhood parenting, preschool enrollment, and eventual student learning outcomes: a cross-country analysis using hierarchical linear modeling with TIMSS 2019 data

open access: yesInternational Journal of Child Care and Education Policy
This paper examines whether parental engagement in early childhood and preschooling act as substitutes, or whether their joint effect enhances students’ learning outcomes.

Identification of Copy Number Variations and Selection Signatures in Wannan Spotted Pigs by Whole Genome Sequencing Data: A Preliminary Study

open access: yesAnimals
Copy number variation (CNV) is an important structural variation used to elucidate complex economic traits. In this study, we sequenced 25 Wannan spotted pigs (WSPs) to detect their CNVs and identify their selection signatures compared with those of 10 ...

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

Copy number variants selected during pig domestication inferred from whole genome resequencing

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
Over extended periods of natural and artificial selection, China has developed numerous exceptional pig breeds. Deciphering the germplasm characteristics of these breeds is crucial for their preservation and utilization.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox
