Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Skewness premium with Lévy processes

open access: yes, 2014
Conteúdo online de acesso restrito pelo editorWe study the skewness premium (SK) introduced by Bates [J. Finance, 1991, 46(3), 1009-1044] in a general context using Levy processes. Under a symmetry condition, Fajardo and Mordecki [Quant. Finance, 2006, 6(

A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

LLM-Assisted Semantic Pruning for Genetic Programming-Based Alpha Factor Discovery

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Genetic programming (GP) has been widely used in quantitative finance for discovering formulaic alpha factors that can predict asset returns. However, GP often produces overgrown expressions that are difficult to interpret and expensive to evaluate. This

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Metaheuristics for Portfolio Optimization: Application of NSGAII, SPEA2, and PSO Algorithms

open access: yesRisks
This work looks for the optimal allocation of different assets, namely, the G7 stock indices, commodities (gold and WTI crude oil), cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin and Ripple), and S&P Green Bond, over four periods: before the COVID-19 crisis, during the COVID-

Hydrogen‐Assisted Fracture of Iron‐Based Fe–Ni–Al Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Principal relations and fracture mechanisms of single‐phase and precipitate‐strengthened Fe–Ni–Al alloys subjected to prior electrochemical hydrogen charging are identified. The mechanisms of hydrogen effect on strength and microhardness are discussed, including hydrogen‐induced increase in microhardness and the role of hydrogen in fracture behavior ...

Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth in Nanocrystalline Ni at Multiple Length‐Scales

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of miniaturized in situ SEM fatigue setup and resultant fatigue crack growth data for nanocrystalline Ni. The presented study focuses on the analysis of fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) in focused ion beam‐notched microcantilevers prepared from nanocrystalline (NC) Ni as a model material.
