Effectiveness of Laser Therapy in Adults with Knee Osteoarthritis: A Bivariate Meta-Analysis of Placebo-Controlled Randomized Controlled Trials

open access: yesEpidemiology, Biostatistics and Public Health
Background: Knee pain represents the second most common musculoskeletal disorder after low back pain [1]. Knee osteoarthritis (OA) represents the leading cause of knee pain, as well as the most common site for OA, with a projected increase of 74.9 ...

Methods for a quantitative evaluation of odd-even staggering effects

open access: yes, 2015
Odd-even effects, also known as "staggering" effects, are a common feature observed in the yield distributions of fragments produced in different types of nuclear reactions. We review old methods, and we propose new ones, for a quantitative estimation of

Cancer cell death induced by the NAD antimetabolite Vacor discloses the antitumor potential of SARM1

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Vacor, a compound converted into the toxic metabolite Vacor adenine dinucleotide (VAD) by the nicotinamide salvage pathway enzymes NAMPT and NMNAT2, exhibits antitumor activity by inducing rapid and complete NAD depletion. We report that Vacor toxicity is limited to cell lines expressing high levels of SARM1, a NAD glycohydrolase.

Complex sampling designs for the Customer Satisfaction Index estimation

open access: yesStatistica, 2013
In this paper we focus on sampling designs best suited to meeting the needs of Customer Satisfaction (CS) assessment with particular attention being paid to adaptive sampling which may be useful. Complex sampling designs are illustrated in order to build

Quantitative Statistical Methods for Image Quality Assessment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Quantitative measures of image quality and reliability are critical for both qualitative interpretation and quantitative analysis of medical images. While, in theory, it is possible to analyze reconstructed images by means of Monte Carlo simulations ...

Tonic signaling of the B‐cell antigen‐specific receptor is a common functional hallmark in chronic lymphocytic leukemia cell phosphoproteomes at early disease stages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
B‐cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B‐CLL) and monoclonal B‐cell lymphocytosis (MBL) show altered proteomes and phosphoproteomes, analyzed using mass spectrometry, protein microarrays, and western blotting. Identifying 2970 proteins and 316 phosphoproteins, including 55 novel phosphopeptides, we reveal BCR and NF‐kβ/STAT3 signaling in disease ...

QuantUM: Quantitative Safety Analysis of UML Models

open access: yes, 2011
When developing a safety-critical system it is essential to obtain an assessment of different design alternatives. In particular, an early safety assessment of the architectural design of a system is desirable.

Expression and DNA methylation of 20S proteasome subunits as prognostic and resistance markers in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Comprehensive analysis of genomic mutations, gene expression, DNA methylation, and pathway analysis of TCGA data was carried out to define cancer types in which proteasome subunits expression is associated with worse survival. Albeit the effect of specific proteasome subunits on cellular function, the main role of the proteasome is better evaluated ...
