RISK ASSESSMENT OF GAS PIPELINE CROSSING UNDER RAILWAY TRACKS AND DENSE RESIDENTIAL AREAS

open access: yesRekayasa Mesin
The crossing of Gas pipelines with railways is part of the energy transportation infrastructure that requires special attention, both to the operational safety of the pipeline and the railway line itself.

Quantitative BSE risk assessment: relating exposures to risk [PDF]

open access: yesLetters in Applied Microbiology, 1998
There is currently no epidemiological evidence to identify the route(s) of transmission of BSE from cattle to humans, although consumption of infected bovine offals, prior to their use being banned in human food in late 1989, is the most likely source.

Uncertainties in risk assessment of dioxin-like compounds : A focus on systemic relative potencies and species differences [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This thesis describes experimental work undertaken to reduce uncertainties in the risk assessment of dioxin-like compounds. The toxic equivalency factor (TEF) approach is the most commonly used method for assessing the risk of complex mixtures of dioxin ...

A comparison of three modelling approaches for quantitative risk assessment using the case study of Salmonella spp. in poultry meat. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A comprehensive review of both the scientific literature and industry practices was undertaken to identify and quantify all sources of contamination throughout the entire poultry meat production chain by Salmonella spp.

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐
