Classical Gravitational Bremsstrahlung from a Worldline Quantum Field Theory. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2021
Using the recently established formalism of a worldline quantum field theory description of the classical scattering of two spinless black holes, we compute the far-field time-domain waveform of the gravitational waves produced in the encounter at ...

Wick Rotation and the Positivity of Energy in Quantum Field Theory [PDF]

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of Mathematics, 2021
We propose a new axiom system for unitary quantum field theories on curved space-time backgrounds, by postulating that the partition function and the correlators extend analytically to a certain domain of complex-valued metrics.

A detector-based measurement theory for quantum field theory [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2021
We propose a measurement theory for quantum fields based on measurements made with localized non-relativistic systems that couple covariantly to quantum fields (like the Unruh-DeWitt detector). Concretely, we analyze the positive operator-valued measure (

APS Medal for Exceptional Achievement in Research: Invited article on entanglement properties of quantum field theory [PDF]

open access: yesReviews of Modern Physics, 2018
The 2016 APS Medal for Excellence in Physics was given to Edward Witten. This contribution was invited in conjunction with this award. These original notes contain concise explanations of some key results in the axiomatic and algebraic approaches to ...

Advanced Topics in Quantum Field Theory

open access: yes, 2022
Quantum field theory is the basis of our modern description of physical phenomena at the fundamental level. This systematic and comprehensive text emphasizes nonperturbative phenomena and supersymmetry. It includes a thorough discussion of various phases

Entanglement entropy and quantum field theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We carry out a systematic study of entanglement entropy in relativistic quantum field theory. This is defined as the von Neumann entropy SA = −Tr ρAlogρA corresponding to the reduced density matrix ρA of a subsystem A.

Energy conditions in general relativity and quantum field theory [PDF]

open access: yesClassical and quantum gravity, 2020
This review summarizes the current status of the energy conditions in general relativity and quantum field theory. We provide a historical review and a summary of technical results and applications, complemented with a few new derivations and discussions.

Quantum Algorithms for Quantum Field Theories [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 2012
Quantum Leap? Quantum computers are expected to be able to solve some of the most difficult problems in mathematics and physics. It is not known, however, whether quantum field theories (QFTs) can be simulated efficiently with a quantum computer.

Quantum scars in quantum field theory

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2023
We develop the theory of quantum scars for quantum fields. By generalizing the formalisms of Heller and Bogomolny from few-body quantum mechanics to quantum fields, we find that unstable periodic classical solutions of the field equations imprint themselves in a precise manner on bands of energy eigenfunctions.

Circuit complexity in quantum field theory [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2017
A bstractMotivated by recent studies of holographic complexity, we examine the question of circuit complexity in quantum field theory. We provide a quantum circuit model for the preparation of Gaussian states, in particular the ground state, in a free ...
