Quantum heat engines with Carnot efficiency at maximum power

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2022
Heat engines constitute the major building blocks of modern technologies. However, conventional heat engines with higher power yield lesser efficiency and vice versa and respect various power-efficiency trade-off relations.

Quantum dynamical framework for Brownian heat engines [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2013
We present a self contained formalism modelled after the Brownian motion of a quantum harmonic oscillator for describing the performance of microscopic Brownian heat engines like Carnot, Stirling and Otto engines. Our theory, besides reproducing the standard thermodynamics results in the steady state enables permits us to study the role dissipation ...

Efficiency fluctuations of a quantum heat engine

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2020
The efficiency of quantum heat engines is a stochastic quantity owing to the presence of thermal and quantum fluctuations. We here extend the standard two-projective-measurement scheme to derive the efficiency distribution of a quantum Otto engine.

Quantum field heat engine powered by phonon-photon interactions

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2023
We present a quantum heat engine based on a cavity with two oscillating mirrors that confine a quantum field. The engine performs an Otto cycle during which the walls and a field mode, together representing the working substance of the engine, interact ...

Reversible Quantum Brownian Heat Engines for Electrons [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2002
Brownian heat engines use local temperature gradients in asymmetric potentials to move particles against an external force. The energy efficiency of such machines is generally limited by irreversible heat flow carried by particles that make contact with different heat baths.

Scaling-Up Quantum Heat Engines Efficiently via Shortcuts to Adiabaticity

open access: yesEntropy, 2016
The finite-time operation of a quantum heat engine that uses a single particle as a working medium generally increases the output power at the expense of inducing friction that lowers the cycle efficiency.

Thermodynamic Constraints on Quantum Information Gain and Error Correction: A Triple Trade-Off

open access: yesPRX Quantum, 2022
Quantum error correction (QEC) is a procedure by which the quantum state of a system is protected against a known type of noise, by preemptively adding redundancy to that state. Such a procedure is commonly used in quantum computing when thermal noise is

Gravitational quantum well as an effective quantum heat engine [PDF]

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal Plus, 2018
In this work the gravitational quantum well is used to model an effective two level system and to perform two thermodynamic cycles, the isogravitational and the isoenergetic ones. It is shown that the isogravitational is independent of the scale parameter whereas the isoenergetic has a dependence on the eigenstates chosen to form the cycle.

Quantum Lenoir Engine with a Single Particle System in a One Dimensional Infinite Potential Well

open access: yesPositron, 2019
Lenoir engine based on the quantum system has been studied theoretically to increase the thermal efficiency of the ideal gas. The quantum system used is a single particle (as a working fluid instead of gas in a piston tube) in a one-dimensional infinite ...
