Student ability to distinguish between superposition states and mixed states in quantum mechanics
Superposition gives rise to the probabilistic nature of quantum mechanics and is therefore one of the concepts at the heart of quantum mechanics. Although we have found that many students can successfully use the idea of superposition to calculate the ...

Macroscopic Superpositions as Quantum Ground States [PDF]
We study the question of what kind of a macroscopic superposition can(not) naturally exist as a ground state of some gapped local many-body Hamiltonian. We derive an upper bound on the energy gap of an arbitrary physical Hamiltonian provided that its ground state is a superposition of two well-distinguishable macroscopic "semi-classical" states.

Quantum superpositions cannot be epistemic [PDF]
Quantum superposition states are behind many of the curious phenomena exhibited by quantum systems, including Bell non-locality, quantum interference, quantum computational speed-up, and the measurement problem. At the same time, many qualitative properties of quantum superpositions can also be observed in classical probability distributions leading to

Axion-like dark matter detection using Stern–Gerlach interferometer
Quantum sensors based on the superposition of neutral atoms are promising for sensing the nature of dark matter (DM). In this study, we utilize the Stern–Gerlach (SG) interferometer configuration to seek a novel method for the detection of axion-like ...

Typing Quantum Superpositions and Measurement [PDF]
We propose a way to unify two approaches of non-cloning in quantum lambda-calculi. The first approach is to forbid duplicating variables, while the second is to consider all lambda-terms as algebraic-linear functions. We illustrate this idea by defining a quantum extension of first-order simply-typed lambda-calculus, where the type is linear on ...

Gravitational quantum switch on a superposition of spherical shells [PDF]
In the absence of a complete theory of quantum gravity, phenomenological models built upon minimal assumptions have been explored for the analysis of possible quantum effects in gravitational systems.

Zero-error Coding Method Based on Quantum Five-symbol Confusion Channel Model [PDF]
In view of the lack of effective coding schemes for quantum zero-error channel, based on the characteristics of quantum five-symbol confusion channel model and the theory of matrix theory,a coding method of five-symbol confusion channel combining quantum ...

Steering-enhanced quantum metrology using superpositions of noisy phase shifts
Quantum steering is an important correlation in quantum information theory. A recent work [Nat. Commun. 12, 2410 (2021)NCAOBW2041-172310.1038/s41467-021-22353-3] showed that quantum steering is also useful for quantum metrology.
