Quasi-elastic neutron scattering of hydrated myoglobin
Journal of Molecular Structure, 1993Abstract Some preliminary results are reported concerning the dynamics of hydration water on the surface of myoglobin, investigated by incoherent quasi-elastic neutron scattering. Several samples of protein were studied at a water content of h = 0.1, 0.4 and 0.8 g/g.

Incoherent quasi-elastic neutron scattering in isomeric alcohols
Physica B: Condensed Matter, 1992Incoherent quasi-elastic neutron scattering (IQENS) data on liquid isomeric alcohols normal-pentanol (n-PeOH) and 2-methyl-2-butanol (2M-2BuOH) and on their mixture are presented. The diffusive motion of protons, as a function of temperature, is analyzed in the framework of the random jump diffusion model.

Quasi-elastic Neutron Scattering Measurements of Liquid Germanium
Journal of Neutron Research, 2005Quasi-elastic neutron scattering measurements of liquid germanium were carried out at 1000 and 1500°C, using the inverted geometry inelastic neutron spectrometer, LAM-40. The dynamic structure factor, S(Q,E), is obtained over a wide momentum transfer region from 0.6 to 5.1 Å−1.

A quasi-elastic neutron scattering (QNS) study
Philosophical Magazine A, 1987Abstract Quasi-elastic line broadening of neutrons scattered from 2at.%Co alloyed in β-Zr shows that at about 1100°C all Co atoms, not merely a small fraction, participate in fast diffusion of Co in Zr within a time interval of 10−9s. In the measured temperature range of 950 to 1380°C the deduced jump frequency is about 20 times faster than that of Zr ...

Quasi-elastic neutron scattering from polysaccharide gels
Physica B: Condensed Matter, 1989Abstract Quasi-elastic scattering from agarose-water gels was measured using the new pulsed-source spectrometer IRIS. Correlation times characterising the water dynamics at temperatures between -20 and 55°C were determined and show two distinct regions.

Neutron quasi-elastic scattering of n-nonadecane
Chemical Physics Letters, 1979Abstract A neutron quasi-elastic investigation of the plastic phase of a randomly orientated sample of n -nonadecane shows good agreement with a simple continuous rotational diffusion model of the molecule about its long axis. No quasi-elastic broadening is observed in the lower temperature phase.

Polarised neutron inelastic and quasi-elastic scattering
Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1979Abstract Recent developments in the use of polarisation analysis for separating magnetic scattering effects are presented. Two applications are highlighted: one is diffuse magnetic scattering by paramagnetic metals, the other concerns the unambiguous identification of magnetic excitations.

Protein dynamics as seen by (quasi) elastic neutron scattering
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 2017Elastic and quasielastic neutron scattering studies proved to be efficient probes of the atomic mean square displacement (MSD), a fundamental parameter for the characterization of the motion of individual atoms in proteins and its evolution with temperature and compositional environment. We present a technical overview of the different types of ...

Inelastic and Quasi-Elastic Neutron Scattering
2016This chapter describes the basic principles of inelastic and quasi-elastic neutron scattering as applied to hydrogen storage systems—in particular to provide an understanding of the vibrations and diffusion of hydrogen and deuterium in the host lattice. The techniques are then illustrated using typical hydrogen storage materials.
