Diffusion studies using quasi-elastic neutron scattering

2000
Quasi-elastic neutron scattering allows to study molecular diffusion in condensed or adsorbed phases. Diffusion coefficients can be derived, without a model, over space scales where molecular motion follows Fick’s law. Furthermore, using jump diffusion models, one can determine characteristic times and distances for the elementary jumps.

Incoherent scattering law for neutron quasi-elastic scattering in liquid crystals

Molecular Physics, 1975
The incoherent scattering law for neutron quasi-elastic scattering in liquid crystals is calculated using a classical formalism including (anisotropic) self-diffusion, rotational motion along the long molecular axis and short time vibrational behaviour. Explicit expressions are given for oriented as well as for unoriented liquid crystals.

Proton-neutron quasi-elastic scattering at 991 MeV

Il Nuovo Cimento A, 1967
The proton-proton and proton-neutron elastic-scattering angular distributions have been measured at 1.69 GeV/c (=991 MeV) from 14.5° to 150° c.m.s. using fast scintillation counters in conjunction with magnetic-momentum analysis. In both cases, the forward elastic cross-sections are considerably in excess of their respective optical-theorem minima, the

A Practical Guide to Quasi-elastic Neutron Scattering

2020
The technique of Quasi-Elastic Neutron Scattering (QENS) is a powerful experimental tool for extracting temporal and spatial information at the nanoscale from both soft and hard condensed matter systems. However, while seemingly simple, the method is beset with sensitivities that, if ill considered, can hinder data interpretation and possibly ...

Quasi-elastic neutron scattering study of AlCl3 aqueous solution

Solid State Communications, 1978
Abstract Quasi-elastic neutron scattering from protons in AlCl 3 aqueous solution has been measured by the use of a triple-axis spectrometer. Assuming the existence of two different kinds of water molecules, either in free state or in bound state, the whole shape of energy spectra of scattered neutrons was analyzed.

Octave program for fitting quasi-elastic neutron scattering data

Physica B: Condensed Matter, 2019
Abstract Here we describe a new program, written in Octave version 4.2.1, freely available to run in both Linux and Windows systems, called ZTR.m. ZTR.m is one of a series designed to exclusively mimic and model quasielastic neutron scattering (QENS) data on water, ranging from that confined in nano-pores to bulk water.

Incoherent quasi-elastic neutron scattering in water-PEG solutions

Physica B: Condensed Matter, 1997
Abstract We report high-resolution (7 μeV, half-width at half-maximum, HWHM) incoherent quasi-elastic neutron scattering data performed on mixtures of Poly(Ethylene Glycol), molecular weight (M.W.) 600 Da, with water. Both samples were prepared using H 2 O and D 2 O in order to be able to separate the polymer dynamics and the hydration water dynamics.

On the quasi-elastic magnetic scattering of slow neutrons

Physica, 1963
Synopsis It is shown that the imaginary part of the spin correlation function can be interpreted as the function which describes the propagation of a disturbance in the magnetization. This is a generalization of Van Hove's work for a gas or liquid.
