Critical gradient optimization for quasi-isodynamic stellarators

open access: yes
We present new and updated methods for reducing transport caused by electrostatic ion temperature gradient (ITG) driven turbulence in quasi-isodynamic (QI) configurations. We first show an updated model for the threshold (critical) gradient of localized toroidal ITG modes.

Quasi-isodynamic stellarator optimisation [PDF]

open access: yes
Stellarators, a promising class of fusion reactor candidates, use geometrically complex magnetic fields to confine plasma in donut-shaped geometries.

Quasilinear particle transport from gyrokinetic instabilities in general magnetic geometry

open access: yes, 2018
The quasilinear particle flux arising from gyrokinetic instabilities is calculated in the electrostatic and collisionless approximation, keeping the geometry of the magnetic field arbitrary. In particular, the flux of electrons and heavy impurity ions is

A geometric approach to constructing quasi-isodynamic fields

open access: yes
The near-axis theory for quasi-isodynamic stellarator equilibria is reformulated in terms of geometric inputs, to allow greater control of the ``direct construction'' of quasi-isodynamic configurations, and to facilitate understanding of the space of such equilibria.
