Hydride Migration within RhH2Ag19 Superatom: A Combined Neutron Diffraction and DFT Analysis

open access: yesSmall, Volume 21, Issue 18, May 5, 2025.
By modifying the crystallization conditions, the migration pathway of interstitial hydrides is visualized for the first time and analyzed through neutron diffraction experiments combined with DFT calculations. The computational results reveal an approximate migration energy barrier of 4.2 kcal mol−1, providing a reasonable explanation for the ...

How sensitive are protein hydration shells to electrolyte concentration and protein composition?

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 34, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract Proteins of obligate halophilic organisms have an unusually high number of acidic amino acids, thought to enable them to function in multimolar KCl environments. Clarifying the molecular scale mechanisms by which this occurs is relevant for biotechnology, to enable enzymatic synthesis of economically important small molecules in salty ...

Underlying Roles of Polyol Additives in Promoting CO2 Capture in PEI/Silica Adsorbents

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 17, Issue 22, November 25, 2024.
Poly(ethylenimine) (PEI) mixed with short‐chain poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) additives and co‐impregnated to mesoporous SBA‐15 silica demonstrate enhanced CO2 capacities and uptake rates. Neutron scattering, solid‐state NMR, and molecular dynamics simulations reveal that favorable PEI distribution is crucial.

Suppression of hidden order in URu2Si2 under pressure and restoration in magnetic field

open access: yes, 2009
We describe here recent inelastic neutron scattering experiments on the heavy fermion compound URu2Si2 realized in order to clarify the nature of the hidden order (HO) phase which occurs below T_0 = 17.5 K at ambient pressure.

Theoretical study of lepton events in the atmospheric neutrino experiments at SuperK

open access: yes, 2009
Super-Kamiokande has reported the results for the lepton events in the atmospheric neutrino experiment. These results have been presented for a 22.5kT water fiducial mass on an exposure of 1489 days, and the events are divided into sub-GeV, multi-GeV and

Quasielastic Neutron Scattering Study on Polymer Nanocomposites

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2014
By using a quasielastic neutron scattering technique (disk-chopper-type spectrometer AMATERAS at J-PARC), we have investigated the microscopic dynamics of polybutadiene (PB) in which silica particles were embedded. The experimental results gave us both a damped vibration mode of PB and jumped diffusion motion of the segments.

Strangeness content of the nucleon in quasielastic neutrino-nucleus reactions

open access: yes, 2007
We present a systematic study of the sensitivity of quasielastic neutrino-nucleus cross sections at intermediate energies to the strange quark sea of the nucleon. To this end, we investigate the impact of the weak strangeness form factors on the ratio of
