Galaxy Zoo: the interplay of quenching mechanisms in the group environment★ [PDF]
Does the environment of a galaxy directly influence the quenching history of a galaxy? Here we investigate the detailed morphological structures and star formation histories of a sample of SDSS group galaxies with both classifications from Galaxy Zoo 2 and NUV detections in GALEX.

DiskScissors: Cutting Arbitrary‐Topology Solids for Bijective Mapping
Abstract An algorithm for cutting solid objects in a topology‐controlled manner is presented. Concretely, given a loop on the object boundary, a disk‐topology cut surface bounded by the loop is constructed in the interior. In contrast to various previous approaches, both disk topology and conformance to the prescribed loop are ensured by construction ...

Scalable Computation of Topological Abstractions for Scalar Data
Abstract Topological data analysis has become an important tool for large scale scalar data analysis and visualization, efficiently extracting the inherent structure and features of interest of the data. However, with growing dataset sizes and complexity, it is increasingly becoming infeasible to compute topological abstractions of interest in serial ...

Survey on Visualization of Information Diffusion over Networks
Abstract Information Diffusion (ID) describes how a value (e.g., a pathogen, a rumor, a packet) spreads through an underlying “medium” network of elements (e.g., a social or computer network). Understanding the information diffusion process is essential to predicting trends, controlling misinformation, and enhancing decision‐making as well as ...

ELVES-Field: Isolated Dwarf Galaxy Quenched Fractions Rise below M∗ ≈ 107 M⊙
We use a new sample of low-mass ( M _* 10 ^9 M _⊙ . We find that, at higher dwarf masses ( M _⋆ ≳ 10 ^7 M _⊙ ), essentially all field dwarfs are star forming as has been found before. In contrast, at M _⋆ ≲ 10 ^7 M _⊙ , ∼30% of field dwarfs appear to

The quenching of star formation in galaxies [PDF]
This thesis is concerned with investigating what makes star formation inefficient in galaxies. Cosmological, hydrodynamical simulations of galaxy formation show that the energy produced in stars, supernova explosions and active galactic nuclei must couple back into a galaxy’s interstellar medium to prevent excess star formation.

Modular training resources for bioimage analysis
Abstract Modern microscopy enables us to measure structural and dynamical properties of many biological processes and is therefore an indispensable research tool. However, the amount and complexity of the produced imaging data is steadily increasing.

ABSTRACT This study considers mutual outsourcing firms in a vertically related market and examines their strategic adoption of environmental corporate social responsibility (ECSR) activities. We demonstrate that ECSR adoption reduces mutual outsourcing firms' profits, resulting in a prisoner's dilemma situation, but enhances welfare regardless of ...
