Defining relations on graphs: how hard is it in the presence of node partitions? [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Designing query languages for graph structured data is an active field of research. Evaluating a query on a graph results in a relation on the set of its nodes. In other words, a query is a mechanism for defining relations on a graph. Some relations may not be definable by any query in a given language.

Ageism in Rheumatology: the Healthcare Professional's Perspective

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective Ageism (age‐based stereotypes, prejudice, or discrimination) is prevalent and linked to prolonged disability and reduced lifespan in older adults. Little is known about ageism within rheumatology. This study explores the healthcare professional's (HCP) perception of the care of older adults and how ageist attitudes or perspectives may impact ...

Data‐driven forecasting of ship motions in waves using machine learning and dynamic mode decomposition

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
Summary Data‐driven forecasting of ship motions in waves is investigated through feedforward and recurrent neural networks as well as dynamic mode decomposition. The goal is to predict future ship motion variables based on past data collected on the field, using equation‐free approaches.

Query Containment for Highly Expressive Datalog Fragments [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
The containment problem of Datalog queries is well known to be undecidable. There are, however, several Datalog fragments for which containment is known to be decidable, most notably monadic Datalog and several "regular" query languages on graphs. Monadically Defined Queries (MQs) have been introduced recently as a joint generalization of these query ...

A query language for biological networks [PDF]

open access: yesBioinformatics, 2005
Abstract Motivation: Many areas of modern biology are concerned with the management, storage, visualization, comparison and analysis of networks, but no appropriate query language for such complex data structures yet exists. Results: We have designed and implemented the pathway query language (PQL) for querying large ...

Bridging Nature and Technology: A Perspective on Role of Machine Learning in Bioinspired Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Machine learning (ML) is revolutionizing the development of bioinspired ceramics. This article investigates how ML can be used to design new ceramic materials with exceptional performance, inspired by the structures found in nature. The research highlights how ML can predict material properties, optimize designs, and create advanced models to unlock a ...
