Inference of the physical parameters of Hα-absorbing plasma structures in the quiet Sun

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
On-disk Hα light-absorbing plasma structures such as mottles, fibrils, filaments, and Hα jets are observable magnetohydrodynamic features in the upper solar chromosphere.

Long-lived particles and the quiet Sun

open access: yesPhysical Review D
The nuclear reaction network within the interior of the Sun is an efficient MeV physics factory and can produce long-lived particles generic to dark sector models. In this work we consider the sensitivity of satellite instruments, primarily the RHESSI spectrometer, that observe the quiet Sun in the MeV regime where backgrounds are low.

Magnetic Coupling in the Quiet Solar Atmosphere

open access: yes, 2009
Three kinds of magnetic couplings in the quiet solar atmosphere are highlighted and discussed, all fundamentally connected to the Lorentz force. First the coupling of the convecting and overshooting fluid in the surface layers of the Sun with the ...

Features of correlation curves of the Siberian Radioheliograph

open access: yesSolar-Terrestrial Physics
Correlation curves of the multi-frequency Siberian Radioheliograph (SRH) provide a sensitive indication and demonstrative representation of monitoring the microwave life of the active Sun.

Turbulent Suppression of Alfvénic Wave Resonances in Coronal Loops

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Alfvénic wave turbulence is a leading mechanism for explaining the heating of the solar corona and the acceleration of the solar wind. Alfvénic waves are observed to be prevalent throughout the inner corona.

Quiet Sun Explosive Events: Jets, Splashes, and Eruptions

open access: yes, 2012
Explosive events are small transition region phenomena characterised by broad non-Gaussian wings in their line profiles. Images from the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) give a first view of the plasma dynamics at the sites of explosive events seen in O ...

Hydrogen Lyman-alpha and Lyman-beta radiances and profiles in polar coronal holes

open access: yes, 2009
The hydrogen Lyman-alpha plays a dominant role in the radiative energy transport in the lower transition region, and is important for the stud- ies of transition-region structure as well as solar wind origin. We investigate the Ly-alpha profiles obtained

Magnetic flux in the inter-network quiet Sun from comparison with numerical simulations

open access: yes, 2005
Khomenko et al. estimate the mean magnetic field strength of the quiet Sun to be 20 G. The figure is smaller than several existing estimates, and it comes from the comparison between observed Zeeman polarization signals and synthetic signals from ...

(Inter-)network structure and dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The dynamical nature of the low solar atmosphere outside active regions is emphasized by recent observations an simulations alike. La Palma images,MDI maps,SUMER spectra,TRACE movies,hydro- dynamic shock simulations and magnetohy rodynamic sheet ...
