Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio as a predictor of response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and survival in oesophageal adenocarcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesBJS Open, 2020
Background Inflammation has an important role in cancer survival, yet whether serum markers of inflammation predict response to potentially curative neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in oesophageal adenocarcinoma (OAC) is controversial.

Impact on postoperative complications of changes in skeletal muscle mass during neoadjuvant chemotherapy for gastro-oesophageal cancer. [PDF]

open access: yesBJS Open, 2020

Multicentre study of perioperative versus adjuvant chemotherapy for resectable colorectal liver metastases. [PDF]

open access: yesBJS Open, 2019
This study aimed to estimate the effect of neoadjuvant FOLFOX in patients undergoing upfront resectable colorectal liver metastases. After adjustment, no significant impact of FOLFOX was detected, suggesting that upfront surgery may be acceptable in patients with limited disease.

Propensity score regression analysis of oesophageal adenocarcinoma treatment with surgery alone or neoadjuvant chemotherapy. [PDF]

open access: yesBJS Open, 2020
Following propensity adjustment for stage, age and sex, neoadjuvant therapy was not associated with survival. Tumour regression is a powerful prognostic indicator, and future research should focus on identifying patients who will derive the most benefit from neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Prediction of a positive circumferential resection margin at surgery following neoadjuvant chemotherapy for adenocarcinoma of the oesophagus. [PDF]

open access: yesBJS Open, 2019
A positive circumferential resection margin (CRM) has been shown to be an adverse prognostic indicator after oesophagectomy for adenocarcinoma. Clinical tumour status, tumour volume, poor differentiation, lack of response following chemotherapy and radiological assessment of invasion can be used to predict CRM positivity in oesophageal adenocarcinoma ...
