Docking studies on novel analogs of quinolones against DNA gyrase of Escherichia coli [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy & Pharmacognosy Research, 2018
Context: Bacterial resistance to antibiotics is the inevitable consequence of the use of antimicrobial agents. Thus, quinolones are an important class of antibacterials; these agents generally consist of a 1-subtituted-1,4-dihydro-4-oxopyridine-3 ...

Surface‐Bound Superoxide Radical‐Mediated Photo‐Fenton Mineralization of Ciprofloxacin on Fe‐Sillenite Nanosheets

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study systematically compares the degradation efficiency of CIP in a H2O2‐alone system and a novel Bi12FeO20‐H2O2 photo‐Fenton system. It reveals for the first time the presence of a quinone‐imine intermediate in the H2O2‐alone system, which exhibits toxicity comparable to CIP.

Synthesis and biological activity of methylated derivatives of the Pseudomonas metabolites HHQ, HQNO and PQS

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2019
Selectively methylated analogues of naturally occurring 2-heptyl-4(1H)-quinolones, which are alkaloids common within the Rutaceae family and moreover are associated with quorum sensing and virulence of the human pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa, have been

Mechanisms of Mitochondrial Toxicity and Cytotoxicity Caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa Pyocyanin in Human Nasal Epithelial Cells

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen in cystic fibrosis‐related chronic rhinosinusitis (CF‐CRS) that produces phenazine metabolites pyocyanin and 1‐hydroxyphenazine (1‐HP), which may have detrimental effects on mitochondria, reactive oxygen species (ROS), Ca2+ signaling, and apoptosis.

Magnetic Pinecone Biochar‐Activated Peroxymonosulfate for Efficient Sulfamethoxazole Degradation: Performance, Mechanism, and Toxicity Analysis

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study successfully prepared magnetic iron/cobalt codoped biochar catalyst (CFSBC) using a one‐step calcination method. The morphology and structure of the material were systematically characterized using SEM, XRD, FTIR, TEM, BET, Raman, VSM, and XPS techniques. The effects of key parameters such as catalyst dosage, peroxymonosulfate (PMS)
