Multifaceted Suppression of Staphylococcal Virulence Phenotypes: In Vitro Study of a Cellular Status With Reduced Agr Activity and Impaired Biofilm

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
Finding of in vitro S. aureus status with reduced Agr activity and impaired biofilm. ABSTRACT Anti‐quorum sensing (QS) therapy has been focused on to reduce the virulence of pathogenic bacteria. However, there is a risk that suppression of the staphylococcal QS Agr system might promote biofilm formation.

Synthesis of thiophenones as quorum sensing inhibitors

open access: yes, 2015
Bacteria communicate using small signaling molecules as part of a system of communication called quorum sensing (QS) to control gene expression for synchronized bacterial behaviors. A task performed by bacteria that is often controlled by this means is biofilm production, making bacteria more resistant to external factors. Naturally occurring furanones

Effect of Green‐Synthesized Silver Nanoparticles From Nepeta pogonosperma and Astrodaucus persicus on the Reduction of Bap Gene Expression in Strong Biofilm‐Producing Acinetobacter baumannii Clinical Isolates

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
Green‐synthesized silver nanoparticles from Nepeta pogonosperma and Astrodaucus persicus significantly inhibit biofilm formation and downregulate bap gene expression in multidrug‐resistant clinical isolates of Acinetobacter baumannii. This eco‐friendly approach offers a promising strategy to combat antimicrobial resistance.

Antibiotic Resistance and Biofilm‐Forming Capacity of Oral Biofilm Bacteria in Patients With Periodontitis and Healthy Individuals

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
Key finding: Antimicrobial resistance was common across all groups and associated with biofilm‐forming capacity, an association that remains observational and species‐confounded. ABSTRACT This study aimed to analyse antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in bacterial isolates from subgingival biofilms of patients with periodontitis and supragingival biofilms ...
