Unspecific Peroxygenase Catalyzes Selective Remote‐Site Functionalizations

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 17, Issue 2, January 22, 2025.
The high‐yielding fungal peroxygenase, MroUPO‐TN, catalyzes the regioselective remote‐site functionalization of hydrocarbons, providing useful and new synthetic building blocks in an economical and sustainable process. Bromocyclooctane affords 4‐bromocyclooctanone in 80% yield, whereas 1‐haloalkanes are transformed into the corresponding ω‐1 ...

The Scutulum and the Pre‐Auricular Aponeurosis in Bats

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 285, Issue 11, November 2024.
The scutulum is not a simple sesamoid element in bats. Its relative size and shape vary amongst taxa. These range from relatively flat structures to derived forms where they exist as socket joints for the pinna during a wide range of movements. This novel modification reduces the area available for the attachment of auricular musculature. To compensate,

Genome‐wide differentiation corresponds to climatic niches in two species of lichen‐forming fungi

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 26, Issue 10, October 2024.
The Pool‐seq analysis of two Umbilicaria species collected from five mountain gradients revealed sharp frequency transitions in alleles driven to fixation. Most transitions coincide with the switch between climate zones, where one zone experiences freezing and the other does not.
