Neutrinos, Fission Cycling and the r-process [PDF]

open access: hybridProceedings of International Symposium on Nuclear Astrophysics - Nuclei in the Cosmos - IX — PoS(NIC-IX), 2010
It has long been suggested that fission cycling may play an important role in the r-process. Fission cycling can only occur in a very neutron rich environment. In traditional calculations of the neutrino driven wind of the core-collapse supernova, the environment is not sufficiently neutron rich to produce the r-process elements.

r-Process elements from magnetorotational hypernovae [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 2021
Neutron-star mergers were recently confirmed as sites of rapid-neutron-capture (r-process) nucleosynthesis. However, in Galactic chemical evolution models, neutron-star mergers alone cannot reproduce the observed element abundance patterns of extremely metal-poor stars, which indicates the existence of other sites of r-process nucleosynthesis.

R-Process with Magnetized Nuclei at Dynamo-Explosive Supernovae and Neutron Star Mergers

open access: yesUniverse, 2021
Nucleosynthesis at latge magnetic induction levels relevant to core-collapse supernovae and neutron star mergers is considered. For respective magnetic fields of a strength up to ten teratesla, atomic nuclei exhibit a linear magnetic response due to the ...

Chromosomal instability drives convergent and divergent evolution toward advantageous inherited traits in mammalian CHO bioproduction lineages

open access: yesiScience, 2022
Summary: Genetic instability of Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells is implicated in production inconsistency through poorly defined mechanisms. Using a multi-omics approach, we analyzed the variations of CHO lineages derived from CHO-K1 cells. We identify

Solar data uncertainty impacts on MCMC methods for r-process nucleosynthesis

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2022
In recent work, we developed a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) procedure to predict the ground state masses capable of forming the observed Solar r-process rare-earth abundance peak.

Stretch Forming Behavior and Constitutive Equation of a Modified 5083 Alloy with High Mg Content at Elevated Temperatures

open access: yesMetals, 2021
For the purpose of applying a modified 5083 alloy (New 5083M alloy) with high Mg content in various automotive sheet parts, the stretch forming behavior of the 5083M alloy was studied in tensile mode at a wide range of processing conditions.

Effect of Combined Extrusion and Rolling Parameters on Mechanical and Corrosion Properties of New High Strength Al-Mg Alloy

open access: yesMetals, 2021
High strength Al-Mg alloy is an attractive material that has the characteristic of increasing both strength and elongation by adding more solute Mg. However, there is a limitation in the oxidation issue during the casting process when it contains high ...

Effect of Cu Addition on Oxide Growth of Al-7 mass%Mg Alloy at High Temperature [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2021
Effect of Cu addition on oxide growth of Al-7 mass%Mg alloy at high temperature was investigated. As-cast microstructures of Al-7 mass%Mg and Al-7 mass%Mg-1 mass%Cu alloys showed α-Al dendrites and area of secondary particles. The 1 mass%Cu addition into
