Derivation of the economic value of R0 for macroparasitic diseases and application to sea lice in salmon

open access: yesGenetics Selection Evolution, 2018
Background Macroparasites, such as ticks, lice, and helminths, are a concern in livestock and aquaculture production, and can be controlled by genetic improvement of the host population.

Ultrastable Photoactive Halide Perovskite Nanocrystal‐Sensitized SnO2 Nanorods for Room‐Temperature NO2 Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Metal oxide (MOx)‐based NO2 gas sensors typically require high temperatures or ultraviolet light, limiting their practical use. To enable visible‐light activation at room temperature, efficient and stable photosensitizers should be integrated with nanostructured MOx hosts.

Intermediate Resistive State in Wafer‐Scale Vertical MoS2 Memristors Through Lateral Silver Filament Growth for Artificial Synapse Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In MOCVD MoS2 memristors, a current compliance‐regulated Ag filament mechanism is revealed. The filament ruptures spontaneously during volatile switching, while subsequent growth proceeds vertically through the MoS2 layers and then laterally along the van der Waals gaps during nonvolatile switching.

Estimation of R0 for the spread of SARS-CoV-2 in Germany from excess mortality

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
For SARS-CoV-2, R0 calculations in the range of 2–3 dominate the literature, but much higher estimates have also been published. Because capacity for RT-PCR testing increased greatly in the early phase of the Covid-19 pandemic, R0 determinations based on

Atmosphere-like turbulence generation with surface-etched phase-screens [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We built and characterized an optical system that emulates the optical characteristics of an 8m-class telescope like the Very Large Telescope. The system contains rotating glass phase-screens to generate realistic atmosphere-like optical turbulence, as ...

Actuating and Sensing Composites of Liquid Crystal Elastomers and Poly(ionic liquid)s

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic conductive, mechanically tough, flexible, and stretchable filaments of a composite material comprising a liquid crystal elastomer and a poly(ionic liquid) are produced through 3D printing, which exhibit large actuation strain under stimulation and electrical resistance variation in response to deformation or environmental condition changes. Their

Comments on glueballinos (R0 particles) and R0 searches

open access: yes, 1996
We propose a search strategy for the light R0 (glueballino) particle suggested by G.Farrar in connection with the light gluino scenario. The basic idea is to moderate and stop the R0 particles and then observe their decay to almost monochromatic pions - at an appropriate time delay relative to a primary collision event, where a gluino jet, likely to ...

The transition from the adiabatic to the sudden limit in core level photoemission: A model study of a localized system

open access: yes, 1999
We consider core electron photoemission in a localized system, where there is a charge transfer excitation. The system is modelled by three electron levels, one core level and two outer levels. The model has a Coulomb interaction between these levels and

Anomalous Pressure‐Temperature Ultrahigh Sensitivities in Atomically Engineered Carbonitride MXenes for Multifunctional Wearable Human–Machine Interfaces: Joint Computational–Experimental Elucidations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Atomically engineered layered 2D Ti3CNTz carbonitride MXene exhibits ultrahigh heat and pressure sensitivity, enabling dual‐mode sensors with 300%–400% performance enhancement and durability for real‐time health‐monitoring interface devices. Precise nitrogen incorporation (e.g., Ti3C1.8N0.2Tz) boosts conductivity, enhancing temperature response, while ...

Constraining halo occupation properties of X-ray AGNs using clustering of Chandra sources in the Bootes survey region

open access: yes, 2011
We present one of the most precise measurement to date of the spatial clustering of X-ray selected AGNs using a sample derived from the Chandra X-ray Observatory survey in the Bootes field.
