This study investigates the prognostic utility of a novel volumetric indicator—psoas volume index (PVI)—for assessing sarcopenia in elderly rectal cancer patients. Sarcopenia classified by our proposed PVI cut‐off values was associated with poor nutritional and inflammatory status, and patients with low PVI showed significantly worse long‐term outcomes.

Background A margin ≥ 1 mm is considered a standard resection margin for colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM). However, microscopic incomplete resection (R1) is not rare since aggressive surgical resection has been attempted in multiple and bilobar CRLM ...

Minimally invasive anatomic liver resection (AR) including major hepatectomy and liver parenchyma‐sparing AR is technically complex and demanding. This systematic review with meta‐analysis including 15 studies comparing 2042 robotic AR and 2129 laparoscopic AR patients demonstrated largely comparable perioperative outcomes and partly better outcomes ...

A totally laparoscopic associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy assisted with radiofrequency (radiofrequency assisted liver partition with portal vein ligation) for staged liver resection [PDF]
In order to induce liver hypertrophy to enable liver resection in patients with a small future liver remnant, various methods have been proposed in addition to portal vein embolisation.

ABSTRACT Aim To examine the significance of portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) as a prognostic factor for patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) treated with chemoradiotherapy (CRT) followed by surgery. Methods The study retrospectively examined 313 patients with borderline resectable (BR) or locally advanced (LA) PDAC who underwent CRT ...

Oncologic Resection Achieving R0 Margins Improves Disease-Free Survival in Parathyroid Cancer [PDF]
Parathyroid cancer has a poor mid-term prognosis, often because of local recurrence, observed in half of all patients. Modern diagnostic workup increasingly enables a preoperative diagnosis of parathyroid cancer. There is limited evidence that more comprehensive oncologic surgery can reduce the risk of local recurrence.

ABSTRACT Background Radical gastrectomy, followed by adjuvant chemotherapy has been a common practice in Japan for peritoneal lavage cytology‐positive (CY1) but peritoneal dissemination‐negative (P0) stage IV gastric cancer. This study aimed to clarify the differences in treatment outcomes between upfront surgery and preoperative chemotherapy, followed
