Two decades of occurrence of non-pathogenic rabbit lagoviruses in Italy and their genomic characterization

open access: yesScientific Reports
Lagoviruses are viruses of the Caliciviridae family affecting lagomorphs. Both pathogenic and non-pathogenic lagoviruses affect the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus), and they are phylogenetically distinguished.

Rapid detection of three rabbit pathogens by use of the Luminex x-TAG assay

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2018
Background Domestic rabbits especially New Zealand white rabbits play an important role in biological research. The disease surveillance and quality control are essential to guarantee the results of animal experiments performed on rabbits.

Identifying and Quantifying Conflicts Between Humans and Terrestrial Mammals in Great Britain

open access: yesMammal Review, Volume 56, Issue 2, June 2026.
We conducted a literature review to identify conflicts between humans and terrestrial mammals in Great Britain. A modified Generic Impact Scoring System was applied to all conflicts so that mammals could be ranked according to their level of impact to help identify the most damaging species and to aid decision‐making. ABSTRACT Introduction Interactions

België ontsnapt niet aan het 'rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus-2'

open access: yes, 2016
Since 2016, an extensive spread of RHDV2, a virus variant of the classical rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV) is ongoing in the Belgian rabbit population. Both variants of the virus usually cause acute death without prior symptoms.

Investigation of the global transportation of Culicoides biting midges, vectors of livestock and equid arboviruses, from flower‐packing plants in Kenya

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 40, Issue 2, Page 260-267, June 2026.
Arboviral diseases spread by Culicoides biting midges have been introduced into Europe by unknown means. A possible route is the carriage of midges with cut flowers shipped to flower markets. We sampled Culicoides in and around a cut flower farm in Kenya; midges were caught in the vicinity and a greenhouse, but not where flowers are processed.

Presence of Myxoma Virus and Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus in Sylvilagus andinus in the Antisana Hydrological Conservation Area

open access: yes, 2021
Sylvilagus andinus (Andean rabbit) is one of the native mammal species most commonly seen in the Antisana Hydrological Conservation Area, east of Quito, Ecuador, and its population influences the ecological stability of the Andean moorlands.

Faunistic inventory of the genus Culicoides (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) in Mauritius Island, Indian Ocean: Diversity and spatial distribution of species of veterinary interest Inventaire faunistique du genre Culicoides (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) sur l'île Maurice dans l'océan Indien: diversité et répartition spatiale des espèces présentant un intérêt vétérinaire

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 40, Issue 2, Page 282-293, June 2026.
Four Afrotropical Culicoides species are recorded in Mauritius with suspected or historically involvement in BTV and EHDV transmission. All species were distributed all over the island. While intra‐specific morphological variations were detected, genetic analyses did not reveal any cryptic diversity. Abstract Viruses transmitted by biting midge species

Restricted Host Specificity of Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus Is Supported by Challenge Experiments in Immune-compromised Mice (Mus musculus)

open access: yes, 2019
Rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV) is a highly contagious calicivirus that causes peracute hemorrhagic fever and frequently kills rabbits before an effective adaptive immune response can be developed.

Genome Sequences of Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Viruses from 2020 isolates

open access: yes, 2020
Complete genome sequences of five rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV) isolates are provided from clinical material of domestic and wild rabbits during the 2020 outbreak in the Unites States (US).

Detection of viral proteins after infection of cultured hepatocytes with rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The calicivirus rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV), which replicates predominantly in the livers of infected rabbits, cannot be propagated in tissue culture.
